Outside is tough, these are IR sensors so they register heat. Under a covered deck or something, they probably do fine, but in the actual OPEN outside, direct sunlight will cause havoc with any of them.
I expected them to be tuned to changing in the heat range of people, not just any heat.
Anyone know a motion sensor good for outdoors? With a fast reset speed so it can keep detecting closer to realtime if something moves and stops and moves?
Sunlight is often very close to body heat, on a 90° day it would be hard to tell the difference.
Thereās an FAQ for discussion of outdoor motion sensors, it should be of interest:
I have one of the ST sensors mounted on fascia of the porch under the eves and gutter, and I can say it is NOT set to human temps, because cars driving by turn on the light attached to it. It works for me since I want the lights to turn on when I pull into the driveway. It triggers a few seconds before the all-in-one motion spotlights.
Thanks. I placed an order for two (now backordered as others have mentioned).
I have been waiting to get in to motion sensors and Iāve been researching like mad. These will be my first. The price is right.
An awesome price!
Lead time is ā1 to 2 monthsā now, though.
My experience with Amazon on back orders is they tend to be conservative (most of the time). I bet that lead time ends up being much shorter for actual orders. I had this happen three times this year.
They like to be conservative for OOS items to keep up their 99% on time delivery. Would rather say 6-8 weeks and deliver in 5, then say 1 month and have send out apologies because it wonāt be there on time. Think Loweās and their 2-3 day delivery and then daily emails telling you it was delayed.
showing $29.99 now.
Their 1-2 month delivery time for the gardenspot deal some of us got was not even close, more like 2-3ā¦
Like I said, āmost of the timeā ā¦
I hope it is better, I ordered 5.
Price is back up to $30.
For those of you feeling a bit unethical this morning you could always go to lowes, buy them at list then return the ones you get from Amazon to lowes in a month or two.
In my case Iāll wait as I still have 4-5 motion sensors to install at home.
Ok got my 4 just now. They are the same model as the retail units I got from Lowes. But these have the generic packaging, which I think is either refurb or maybe units out of one of their kits maybe. Not that Iām complainingā¦yet. The first one I pulled out looks used/dirty. Iāll try pairing one later today most likely.
Note the dirt on the top of the case. The white outer box, but purple inner box. I compared to a retail unit I havenāt installed yet and they are the same, except this one is missing one barcode sticker on the back, and the main big sticker with the qr code is kinda faded. Like youād almost think it was a fake sticker.
Iāll mess with it after lunch or work today.
ouch!!! Back up to $42 , 2-3 month backorder. Hopefully once they are back in stock the price will drop again
My order placed on Oct 5 gave an estimated delivery date between Oct 27 and Nov 21. Today, true to form, I got an email updating the delivery date to Oct 17.
Oh, and itās back down to $29.99.
Mine also says Oct 17th, but it says expected to ship Oct 11th. Has not shipped yet.
