Just wondering if there’s been any change on these. My hub should arrive Saturday (so excited to try it out) and not only are these the cheapest, but their also the only door sensor I can find locally that might work. Surprising that all the stores that carry home automation stuff near me have zero door/window sensors.
Any luck on the $19.99 Lowes IRIS #0388558 Door/Windo/Cabinet Sensor/Switch yet?
Great price but ST not recognizing, I did see a push button inside of it, so not sure it it has to toggle or the switch targeted or some combo of that…
It looks like the push button may be an on/off switch, cause the cover has a tab that may press it when it is assembled…
Nice unit for the $

Lowes Q&A says: The Iris contact sensors for doors and windows are ZigBee devices in the 2.4 GHz frequency band.
Anyone find an affordable switch?
Monoprice is probably your next best price. Zwave.

The Quirky Tripper contact sensors are working really well for me. They run $40 for a 2-pack at Amazon.
No issues connecting? Looks like a great alternative, thanks for the share!
Are these Zigbee or Z-Wave and do they support a low battery warning?
Zigbee. The device type that @mitchp developed does report battery. Learn more here:
I bought my ST hub a few days ago. I found the Iris open/close sensors at Lowe’s for $11.99 and bought 8 of them, not realizing they didn’t work. The very thought of paying $20-$40 each is making me dizzy. Do you think Iris will ever be supported?
@mrscliett, I don’t believe it’s an issue of ST supporting them, but more of an issue of Iris’s use of their own proprietary ZigBee devices. It’s too bad Iris wasn’t designing their devices to be compatible with any ZigBee HA controller instead of just their own. I would have bought 25+ of their sensors instead of the Ecolinks I have now.
It’s mentioned above that rumors were that they were to be redesigned to work with any ZigBee controller, but that was well over a year ago.
Thanks for the reply. I’m sure they will be pretty sad to see me come back with my box full of Iris stuff, especially since I made them pull them down from the top shelf. Oops!
The original version of Iris sensors are a bargain right now. Below are links to a series of articles where others have been able to make use of these sensors on third party systems. I am hoping there is information here that would help make them compatible with SmartThings.
From what I can tell the IRIS 0388558 door/window/cabinet sensor will not work, straight out of the package, with the ST hub. It might with some bridge scripting and it would be a cool hack. but not out of the box. Please feel free to correct me with specifics if i am wrong.
