Still new to the home automation/security market. I recently purchased a SmartThings Know Your Home Kit from Amazon. So far pleased with the system & included accessories. I wanted to add a second contact sensor for another exterior door. I picked up an IRIS contact sensor from LOWES, thinking it would work with SmartThings hub. I’ve read that the zigbee protocol is not compatible with SmartThings. Looking for additional information before I attempt to return the sensor to lowes. Thanks for any help.
The only stuff from Lowes that will work are the ones that use the Z-Wave protocol, like GE switches and sockets and the siren. Smartthings is compatible with Zigbee HA and IRIS use mostly Zigbee.
I’ve seen mixed reports on Iris devices. It seems Lowes is in the process of updating their things to use Zigbee HA. My suggestion would be to give it a try and see if it works. If it doesn’t, take it back.
Price on these contact sensors has dropped to $15. Anyone have them working, or are they still using an incompatible zigbee profile?
