So I re-added my stepson’s iPhone last night as a presence sensor. Today it’s saying hes home and the arrival time is corresponding to the same time as the system time. So every time you go in there it’s arrival time has changed to the current time. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Never heard of that happening before.
I’ve had it happen where smartthings won’t see an iPhone presence unless i actually open the smarttthings app. So maybe ‘touching’ the application is forcing it to see it as present time. I would uninstall smartthings from his phone, and redownload the app. That usually clears things up, at least in my case.
