Integrating First Alert Zwave Smoke Alarms with Ecobee

Hello everyone. I just picked up 3 First Alert Zwave smoke alarms and I cannot figure out how to make it so that if they detect smoke or CO the Ecobee thermostat will shut off.

I know I can’t do it directly and I have to use something like IFTTT or Github but I’m in over my head in terms of how to accomplish any of that. I tried searching and best I could find is I have to create a virtual switch/device and then link it somehow but again, I’m very new to all of this and I’m not sure how to do any of that.

Would anyone mind helping me out here? If it is too much to type out don’t worry about it. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give.

If it matters at all I have an Oil furnace and an ecobee 3 with one sensor in the bedroom.

As with all things there will be several methods for accomplishing your goal. If you are an IOS user you can use SmartRules to accomplish this. I have rules set up in SmartRules to turn my Ecobee3 off in the event of smoke detected by my Zcombo detectors.
