IFTTT message on keeping Nest Integration

Due to your avid feedback, Google has created a path for current users of Nest to keep their Nest Applets functioning!

Earlier this year, Google announced a significant change to their Nest products. In their efforts to bring smart home solutions under a Google Assistant umbrella, the Works with Nest program was to be discontinued. That meant your Applets for Nest Thermostat, Nest Protect, and Nest Cam would cease to function. Now, that is no longer the case.

Please refer to Nest’s post for details, but here is how to keep your Nest Applets working on IFTTT beyond August 31, 2019.

  • Do not migrate your Nest account to a Google account. Migrating your Nest account will cause IFTTT and other Works with Nest integrations to be disconnected. This process is not reversible.

  • Do not disconnect Nest from IFTTT after August 31st as you will not be able to reconnect it. This affects users that do not migrate their Nest accounts to a Google one.

At IFTTT, we believe that every thing works better together and we will continue to advocate for your ownership over how the products, apps, and services that fill your life can be connected, secured, and controlled.

If you have feedback to share, take to your community forum of choice and share your opinion on how you’d like the services in your life to work for you.

What’s Happening With Nest and Yonomi?

UPDATE

Following the recent announcements at Nest and Google, we wanted to share with our users some upcoming changes to our integration with Nest.

On May 7, 2019, Google announced that it is merging its Google Home and Nest brands under a new, single, smart home brand—Google Nest. As part of this new era for Nest, Google also announced that users will be asked to migrate their accounts from Nest to Google and that it will be ending the Works With Nest program.

Works With Nest is the partner program that has allowed trusted third-party companies to connect to your Nest thermostats, smoke detectors, cameras, and security sensors to their services. Since the Yonomi App launched in 2014, Yonomi has been a member of the Works With Nest program—using Nest’s APIs to sync your thermostats and smoke detectors to all the other devices in your home.

On August 31, 2019, Google will begin restricting access to the Works With Nest APIs.

Will My Nest Devices Still Work With Yonomi?

Sometime prior to August 31, 2019, all Nest users will receive a notification prompting them to migrate their existing Nest account to a Google account. If you migrate to a Google account, your Nest devices will immediately stop working with Yonomi and other Works With Nest partners.

For this reason, we recommend that you do not migrate to a Google account if you wish to continue to keep your Nest devices connected to Yonomi and maintain the most unified automation experience for your home.

You should also be careful not to accidentally remove your Nest devices from your Yonomi account. After August 31, 2019, you will no longer be able to reconnect your Nest devices to Yonomi.

New users that purchase their Nest devices after August 31, 2019, or those that already set up their Nest devices under a Google account, will not be able to connect to Yonomi.

What’s Next For Nest and Yonomi?

Google has messaged that they will create a new partner program that will allow you to connect your Nest devices to your preferred automation services, but it is not clear when this will be available. Stay tuned and we’ll share updates as more information is released.

In the meantime, we recommend you review this FAQ provided by Google about what this transition means for Google Nest customers.

Despite this move by Google and Nest, all of your other favorite devices will continue to work with Yonomi as they always have. You will continue to see exciting new device integrations announced by Yonomi we continue to innovate and grow with the ever-expanding smart home ecosystem.

We believe that most consumers and device makers continue to have passionate enthusiasm for an open and agnostic connected home, not one controlled by one or two major brands, and Yonomi remains committed to helping bring this vision of the smart home to life.

Sincerely,

The Yonomi Team

Important Update Regarding

Works With Nest Integration

Dear Wink/Nest User,

Back in May, Google announced a change to their Nest ecosystem. The Works with Nest program is being discontinued and they are encouraging their users to migrate their Nest accounts to Google accounts. Unfortunately, doing so will permanently sever connections between Nest, and Wink and other 3rd Party Platforms.

Thanks to an overwhelming response by the user base, Google is still allowing these 3rd Party Integrations to continue after August 31, 2019 if you follow these steps.

You can follow these steps to ensure that Nest products will continue to work with Wink beyond this date.

  • Do not migrate your Nest account to a Google account. Completing a Nest account migration will cause Wink and other Works with Nest integrations to be permanently disconnected. This process is not reversible.
  • Do not disconnect Nest from Wink after August 31st. If you disconnect Nest after this date, you will not be able to reconnect it. This will also affect users that choose not to migrate their Nest accounts to a Google account.

Additional information can be found in this blog post from Nest .

Wink is still dedicated to providing a streamlined home automation experience for our users in a single, unified app. There are times when our partners may make business changes and system updates which can heavily impact our users. Though these changes are often out of our control, we will always try to minimize the disturbance they cause, even if they are often times unavoidable.

We apologize for any inconvenience and will always notify the Wink community and present alternative options as soon as we have them available. Should you have any further questions about the Works with Nest program and how it will impact your Wink ecosystem, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support team. Give us a call at 1-844-Wink-App, or email us using Questions@Wink.com.

And this is how easy the migration happens:
