Hard times with setup for hub V2 purchased used

So… long story short I picked up a v2 hub and starter kit for a bargain deal seconds and hand. Started to do the set up process this evening and low and behold it’s been set up before. Setup code won’t work as it registered to another account. I read through all the support suggestions, factory reset and such but I can’t see the even get it into reset mode. Press and hold the reset button and it just stays green.

Has anyone else experienced this before and is there a fix for it?
Thanks for suggestions and help in advance.
Ben

The only way that I know of is to call Support and explain it to them. Only support can free up a previously registered hub.

The instructions for the 2018 hub will work for a 2015 (v2) hub as well: https://support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/204936890-How-do-I-factory-reset-the-Hub-delete-a-Location-

Copied here for ease of access with a couple extra notes added in bold:

  1. Disconnect the power cable from the Hub (v2 only - remove all batteries as well).
  2. Make sure ethernet is connected
  3. Using a pin or a small tool, hold down the reset button on the back of the Hub
  4. While holding down the reset button, reconnect the power cable to the Hub
  5. Continue holding the button for more than 30 seconds
  6. When the LED on the front switches from flashing yellow to solid yellow, release the button

As a safety measure a factory reset re-downloads the latest firmware, so there will be quite a few different LED states as it does that. When it’s done, it will turn solid green. I recommend starting the reset process, going and having a cup of tea/coffee/beer and letting it do its thing for 15-20 minutes before trying claim again.
