Get ready to make the switch!

There is a new category: directly connected devices. This appears to be Bluetooth devices. What is this for?

where do you see this?

That’s been there for a long time and yes, it is where my Bluetooth devices that are connected to my phone live.

I assume the ST folks have a plan for this. Any guesses?

Remember that the new V3 app replaced multiple Samsung apps, including the one for automobiles, the one for appliances, etc. The prior Samsung connect app allowed you to connect Bluetooth speakers, headphones, and car players. So it’s always had the ability to handle some Bluetooth devices. It’s just important to understand that these are being paired to your phone, not to the hub. But there’s nothing new in being able to add them. they are required for the functionality of the apps that they replaced. :sunglasses:

Bluetooth devices are a little different from other devices registered in SmartThings. They won’t appear in Rooms or in the Devices menu. Instead, they will display under Nearby devices or the SmartThings Panel when the app is open.

It’s Android only. And maybe Samsung phones only?

…but I do find the nag screen telling me to turn on Bluetooth every time the new app starts annoying. I have no Bluetooth devices attached to my iPad, and see no future reason for them. All my Bluetooth devices are attached to my Android phone, where, for me, they make more sense

I think it is Samsung only. My S8 has it, my Pixel 2 doesn’t

There are a couple of settings that affect that. By juggling the settings that mention bluetooth I managed to stop it either turning on bluetooth or nagging to do so.

Without much more effort, ST could have these show up as devices with a connect or not connected state. That could be very handy.

I haven’t tried it, but isn’t that what the ā€œnot availableā€œ indicator is?

Where are you seeing the not available indicator?

I was thinking Bluetooth connected might be used as a presence indicator in automations.

The human can see it on the dashboard as shown in the picture above, but Bluetooth devices are not at present available for use in automations at all. They don’t show up on your device list when you are creating automations.

Will this break cast-web-api i use for announcements.

Issue is solved (not sure if this is thanks to backend or app): history is back on normal capabilities but still not working on exotic capabilities like TVOC or CO2

Looks like this might be coming for non Samsung phones
