Hi! Is there a way to use Flic Twist with smartthings so that it behaves like real dimmer? I have this Ikea cabinet with Trådfri lights and those are connected directly to Smartthings hub. Now I can control those with scenes 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% but that’s dull…
Edit: I might have talked too soon, was assuming the Flic Twist generates events while you twist it… which after reading looks like they just call scenes instead so maybe you can’t. Is there any action in flic for “rotated right/left”? In that case you could have a scene for stepping up and other for down in the virtual dimmer. If they’re just absolute positions then you can’t use it.
It gives these options, but only “Advanced” are usable with Smartthings. Ikea and Hue devices are however fully supported. They bahave like 0-100% dimmer. And so are Matter devices, I think…
Yeah, the flic can connect directly to some ecosystems and it’s a Matter controller too.
The question was about the SmartThings integration, I’ve read they call scenes, but when? Only for specific positions or it can call a scene when rotating in one direction?
I see, then it’s going to be difficult. Flic could improve the SmartThings integration to control devices too or, at least, allow running a scene on rotation instead of when it stops in a specific position.
The Matter workaround could be an option in Home Assistant using Matter Bridge, but SmartThings does not support exposing devices to Matter, it’s a controller not a bridge.
Another option would be to have Flic control a Matter light or switch (added to ST too) and then copy the values to the ikea lights with some automation.
Also, maybe not worth it for just some lights, getting a Dirigera hub, then connect the IKEA lights both to Flic and SmartThings through Matter (instead of Zigbee), but that’s another device and not that cheap… The advantage is that everything would be local instead of cloud based.
Yeah… I was also thinking about replacing the Trådfri driver with Matter driver. But I guess there isn’t plug and play alternative so it requires some DIY tinkering. And does the Ikea lights work with another driver…
I meant using the Dirigera as bridge to expose the lights as Matter lights to both SmartThings and Flic. You won’t need a driver for those, SmartThings supports Matter lights. And Flic is a Matter controller so it should be able to control them too.
