First lighting project with SmartThings (UK)

Just a note JD, in the UK there are no such things as local codes, the whole of the United Kingdom has 1 standard that is strictly adhered to (BS 7671) 18th edition, 19th edition due 2022 with amendments and safety changes

The reason for no local codes like other countries… its safer ! Having different ways to wire different things just creates confusion for installers and users, 1 standard means a qualified electrician can work anywhere in the world that adheres to British standards and users from anywhere in the UK know what to expect and how to operate it

I’ve personally run into differences in Scotland (I have cousins there).

For example:

Part P - Scotland and Northern Ireland

Part P electrical self-certification schemes in England & Wales do not apply to work in Scotland.

My understanding is that it’s the uniform throughout England, but as far as the United Kingdom as a whole, some regional variance is allowed.

No absolutely not, there are no variations, part p does not imply there are variations for the installation in different parts of the UK

Part P is for self certification in both sections, competence and whatever the other part is, can’t remember tbh

The fact remains there are no relevant differences anywhere in the UK for electrical installation

Good to know, I’m sure that makes things easier! :sunglasses:

It makes things safe but the point to my post was to point out we do not have local code or variations, we strictly adhere to one standard

Local code is an American thing, to comment on its safety is outside of my experience

So please do add our single standard to your extensive knowledge if possible please :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually, there is a difference, the Scots are used to much colder weather than us southern softies
