DoorBot v2.0 - now called ring video doorbell

Hi. I have read many reviews on Ring and am still willing to give it a try. I own several properties and feel that this my be a solution to my problem. However, I was never sent the $99 promo code I requested. Can you please honor the 50% off offer and send me a coupon code to shuntay@gmail.com so I can complete my order?

That offer expired over a year ago.

Is there any other promotional code that you could offer me?

Why on earth would you think they would take a massive hit on a sale? They’re already well into the market with massive funding…it doesn’t serve them at all to effectively throw people freebies. Also if you ā€œown several propertiesā€ that’s not exactly saying ā€œI’m broke and can’t afford $200 vs $100ā€.

Suck it up, buy one, it’s a good product

August release video door bell for $200.00

Any info on August doorbell working with ST? I read it runs off of wifi and bluetooth?

No integration yet. We’ll have to see if they publish an open API for the Wi-Fi.

thats a really ugly doorbell  why didnt they make something that looks better like the ring

I dont have Vivint, but they made a nice looking video doorbell.

Fibaro also made a nice looking one with z wave, 4k video. Battery, PoE, wifi and som card.

For those that are using the ring video doorbell. Is it compatable with ST and have you had any issues since using it? I am thinking about dropping the cash on $200 product. I just want to make sure everyone that has one still likes it and would still recommend it to anyone.

Thanks!

Is NOT compatible with ST but other than that, no issues worth mentioning. If I had to do it over again I’d buy it again.

Have had it for a few months now, love it. Have already used it to catch some scoundrels in our neighborhood posing as utility workers. The police certainly appreciated the video.

As others have said, not compatible with SmartThings, but then none of the video doorbells are at this time.

Not being compatible means you just have to run it as a separate app. You can’t trigger anything in SmartThings off of motion detection by the doorbell device.

I have a different device, the Kuna lantern, and I’m really happy with it even though there’s no integration. I think a lot of the choices of these devices is based on aesthetics. Different styles appeal to different people.

There are also some real feature differences to consider.

The Kuna has four main features for $199

  1. light
  2. camera
  3. two way audio
  4. panic button siren

The audio and live viewing through the Kuna’s camera can be initiated either by the motion sensor or manually from the app. That was important to me, because I like to be able to visually check for packages even though the motion alert might’ve been several hours earlier. Mostly to see if my housemate remembered to bring stuff in.

Some of these devices only give you access to the camera if there’s a motion alert active. This is true of ring.

Can I initiate a live video feed? No, currently the camera turns on when the button on the front of Ring Doorbell is pushed, or when motion is detected. On-demand remote camera access is a feature we are looking into.

For other people, the power options may be more important. Kuna requires being connected to power, but then you usually use it to replace the porch light. Some other devices offer a battery-only option.

And then there’s the very important question of exactly what video can be stored, and how much it will cost you to store it. How long are the clips, do you have a choice in that length, where are they stored, can they be downloaded Or just reviewed, etc. You just need to check the details of each device’s plans, there is a lot of variation from one to another.

For all these devices, the prerequisite question is how strong is the Wi-Fi signal exactly the point where you are going to put the device. If you have a window near your door, you will probably be OK. But if the area where the device will be put is all brick and metal, it may be a problem. You can do a quick check of this just by putting your phone on Wi-Fi and holding it where you will install the device and seeing how well you can access the Internet. If the signal’s bad, the video from your doorbell will be bad too, no matter which device you pick.

Thanks for the info, The Kuna looks awesome. I might have to get it despite not having ST integration which will probably be the first thing I’ve said this about so far, it just looks that good. To bad we can not have it integrated, not even a relay switch hack? :stuck_out_tongue:

Is the video feed good? How reliable has it been, false alerts? Is it using PIR or just video motion based. Which I’ve had trouble with when clouds fly by…

I wonder when the Fibaro device @pathduck mentioned will come out, could not find other mention of it.

I seem to be having issues resetting the motion sensitivity on my Ring Doorbell. I go through all the steps to reduce the sensitivity to 5ft, hit ā€œsaveā€, it then says to press the button on my Ring doorbell, which I do. The doorbell of course rings, and then the app kicks me out to the video answer page. I’ve tried ignoring, answering, etc.

Each and every time I go back, the sensitivity settings have not saved? It’s driving me nuts as every time a car goes by I get a notification and just want to reduce this. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Doesn’t sound like you are doing anything wrong. That said… Just tried it myself (FW Version = 1.5.31) and it appears to work fine. What firmware version are you on??

DO WANT.

Pointless 20 character limit.

According to my phone, 1.5.07a, haven’t received an update notification but will try going to the Play store for a hard update. Assume you mean the app firmware unless it also updates the doorbell itself?

No I mean the firmware of the bell not the app. To find the bell FW from within your app:
Select the device under the option "My Devices"
Select "Device Settings >"
Scroll down and look for the label "Firmware Version:
