Well… Oomi Home’s Kickstarter did really well, quite likely due to the custom control touchscreen that is included in most of the packages.

It’s odd; but I think there is some appeal to hardware specifically designed for smart home control rather than an App; partly because a lot of consumers can’t fathom buying another smartphone or tablet to dedicate to that purpose yet have a different perspective if it comes that way.

We’re have some distinctive characteristics as Community participants that differ from the average target smart home consumer.

Is there a list of what type devices can be changed in the CSS? Yesterday I tried to change the background color of my SmartThings Multi sensor, which I then realized is three separate devices. 1. temp 2. Open/Close and 3. motion. I wanted to change the movement section, but I couldn’t figure out the tile type. Motion did not work. If someone knows where the list is and what type tile this is please let me know.

There was a comment in the video that no extra wiring is needed. Except apparently to install their devices in place of a light switch which is more wiring than most homeowners are comfortable with. I replaced my switches myself for SmartThings, but that was a nerve wracking, stressful day wondering if I was going to zap myself or burn down my house.

I also thought that it was interesting that for $5 you could get on the mailing list to find out about updates and get spammed with their ads.

I think electrical fires will become more common as more people become more comfortable try their luck with DIY home wiring when they play with HA devices.

I have been in the Building Automation business for 32 years and today I wanted to change two bathroom vanity fixtures that were there when we moved in a year ago. Well to my surprise there were no electrical boxes in the wall to mount the fixture. The Butcher who built the house spliced the cable in the strip light totally against National Electrical code. Well I had to install two round boxes and patch a one foot long gap in the wall. I am waiting for the spackle to dry so I can sand. I was lucky this house has neutrals in all the switch boxes so installing switches was easy.

This was mentioned earlier, but here’s the CSS source of SmartTiles.

The best way to interact with the CSS is via developers console. In desktop version of Firefox and Chrome, it’s opened by pressing F12 button.

In all honesty, this CSS customization feature is accidental and I never realized that it will be so popular. It is a big challenge for V6 to find a balance between ultimate customization and ease of use, but I’m definitely making it more a accessible to an average user without having to look under the hood.

I see the .acceleration but how is it implemented in the css? I just see where you assigned a color in the top section? Also I don’t think I can get to developers console in Chrome Mac version.

You would address all accelerations sensor tiles as .tile.acceleration { }. What are you trying to do?

If F12 button is reserved for some other OSX function, that options is under Preferences > More Tools > Developer tools.

I use the Multi sensor for two reasons. 1. Acceleration when the attic fan comes on 2. Temp in attic

Another option for Windows at least (can’t see it being too different on other OS’es) is to right click on an object and choose “Inspect”

Are you attempting to change the color of the icons for this?

If so… Try this code and change the colors as you need them

.acceleration.active .icon {color: #006778;}
.acceleration.inactive .icon {color: #9F792C;}

Or… I’m not sure why my acceleration tiles are setup differently, but everything else is set up this way:

Is there a way to test the acceleration without going up into the rafters and shake the thing? If not I will have to wait till summer when the fan goes on.

Not sure if this will do it but try refreshing the device in the Things list.

I know that will trigger Motion sensors.

I had no real interest in it at first. Liked everything the way it was. Then I decided to change the icon for my fans. That got me and I became addicted to it.

Go to the View menu, Developer, Developer Tools. I especially like the ability to show the device mode so I can swap back and forth to see the way it will look on my phone vs desktop.
