Converting 110v outdoor lights to 12v with an inside smart switch

I have two 110 spots on trees in front yard. The switch is located inside. I would like to convert these to low voltage fixtures. Is there an indoor smart switch that would drop the 110v to 12v so I can change fixtures and control them with Alexa or similar software?

The short answer is no, but you should be able to use a transformer just like you would use with a dumb system.

Agree with JDRoberts. I put a Zooz on/off outdoor switch on the transformer box and keep the transformer in the On state. It has worked exceptionally well.

Thank you. This is helpful. Would placing a low voltage transformer (one from a big box store) in a crawl space work? Would that work from a code perspective?

Technically, it would work. Code varies by locale so can’t confirm it’s compliant for your location.

Also, most low voltage transformers meant to be used for landscape lighting are designed to be used outdoors.

I would add that the nature of a transformer is to give off heat. Add that to your consideration.
