Controls slow on Galaxy Watch 7

I can control my devices from my watch, but it takes like 15 seconds for the controls to appear “enabled”. I do notice that my phone wakes up when I open SmartThings on my watch, so it seems like it’s relaying commands through my phone, rather than talking directly to SmartThings, even though my watch is on wifi.

Anybody else have this issue?

Same thing on the Galaxy Watch 4 if it even works. Most of the time the device ICON just spins and spins without doing anything.

A support person confirmed to me that things are relayed through the phone. I have to wonder if there are just a very small number of people controlling SmartThings from their watches. It seems like a simple thing for products that are all Samsung to have the watch talk directly to the hub when on the same network.

Except for the fact that the ST platform requires the cloud. With or without a hub, the app on your phone communicates to the cloud and not directly to your hub.

Good point, but I don’t see why that requires relaying through the phone.

It occurs to me that I don’t know how many features on my watch relay through my phone rather than directly hitting the web. This may be one of the few where latency greater than a second is noticeable. All the more reason for them to optimize it, though!

I believe that unless you disable Bluetooth on your watch, the primary path to the web is through the phone. Also, some watch apps (like ST) seem to require the phone even if there is Wi-Fi or cellular data available.
