Check the Preconditions in Your Automations! (January 2021)

Absolutely. Yes, after the most recent app update my iPhone refuses to turn back on pre-conditions. When I contacted Samsung they pretended like it isn’t an issue. This is so frustrating!

First of all, never bother contacting customer support (theyre nothing but call takers and are almost always completely clueless)…instead, contact of of the several VERY helpful ST staff on this forum. They care and can almost always fix an issue.

Thanks for the help! Do I just post in general or do I find specific support experts? Sorry, new to the boards!

This forum was set up many years ago so that customers could help other customers. There are a few staff members who occasionally post on their own initiative, but they aren’t assigned to do so except for things like announcements, and we try not to bombard them with individual requests unless somebody is really stuck.

Their profile avatars will have a SmartThings logo to indicate that they are employees.

Ended up making my own workaround.

I don’t own any Android devices, so I loaded BlueStacks on a Macbook Air and then downloaded the Android version of the ST App.

Using this approach I was able to re-establish my preconditions and that fixed the problem.

I’m apparently struggling with this too. I dumbly tried ST support, and they gave me a 3hr troubleshooting task. I’m hoping someone here can suggest a simpler thing to check.

I’m getting ~45 notifications every night when my system arms (same when location sensing arms for away mode). I don’t know what to check. TIA.

Are you using a “virtual switch“ to make that happen?

If so, try changing to a “simulated switch“ instead. You will have to do something to turn the switch off again, you can use power allowance for that if you want or just turn it off in an automation.

The “virtual switch“ DTH doesn’t have state and something has changed recently which causes this to keep triggering over and over. The simulated Switch DTH does not have this issue.

See the following for discussion of this:

Outage Affecting STHM and some automations (19 Jan 2021)

Hi there!
I continue having problems with the mode precondition using iOS.
Although I re-flag them in my automations, they are automatically unflaged and they’re not working as they should.
Anyone found a solution for this?

I just got this from Samsung.

“This is a known display issue in the current version of the SmartThings iOS App. The “precondition” is saved correctly to the cloud, but it is not properly reflected within the App. This is targeted to be resolved in the next App Update for iOS.”
