Very nice. I have been looking for a way to do this with fingerprint for a while. Wife doesn’t like having to enter a code, she thinks in the time it takes her to do that she can just use her key. I wish there was a fingerprint reader for ST.
Lockly is a real nice lock with lots of features & the pricing isnt bad but i just wonder if they will ever work with smartthings. Lets keep out fingers
I belive these will be Matter so they should work, but then again, Matter is a mess right now.
Are you going to CES? I have always wanted to go and tried this year but couldnt get an invatation.
not going. it would be fun though.
I always thought it was open for everyone but when I checked this year it is not. Im going to come up with a strategy to get an invite for next year. All of my expenses would be paid by Panasonic as their one of my biggest customers. Im going to use the Panasonic route to ge the invite!
They’ve changed the attendance rules since COVID-19, trying to reduce the crowds.
We have the front door lock open based on our geo-location. Has a high WAF
Im like Jd in that sense, I dont want the door to unlock unless were right in front of it. I’m looking into the Ibeacon solution he mentioned in another post.
I’m going to their booth today. This is the first hub I’ve seen that is a Matter controller AND bridge.
I’m jealous.
I got a tour of the Samsung booth from Mark Benson that focused mostly on SmartThings. Obviously the Tesla and Hyundai/Kia integration were the big SmartThings news from CES, but there was some smaller announcements (or things I noticed) that I think some folks here might find interesting:
-
Map View: Map view is getting a big enhancement and its already started rolling out to Galaxy devices (maybe general Android?). Supposed to be coming to iOS around March/April. There’s several ways you can create your map: Draw it in app, upload a pic of your floor plan (screen shot from a robot vacuum app was one example), map from a Samsung robot vacuum, or by street address (Korea only). The map view itself has some cool features where you can filter by room or capability. I.e. lights only, cameras, temperature, energy, etc. Some of them like temperature have nice color coding.
-
SmartThings Together: I think this is already out, but it produces a QR code that makes it easy to share your SmartThings location with another person. Notably, you can limit which devices they have access to and set an expiration date. If that person doesn’t have the SmartThings app, they can control them from the my.smartthings.com web page.
-
Tapo: certain Tapo cameras now work with SmartThings. It’s been a while since a new camera has been added!
-
Samsung Now+: Certain Samsung TVs have a nice set of widgets that automatically pop-up when the TV is in sleep mode and approached (prox sensor in TV). Several of those Widgets are for ST devices
-
TV Quick View: there’s a dedicated button on some TV models that when pressed in overlays a menu from the left side of the screen where you can control your ST devices
They’re obviously pushing to better integrate the SmartThings experience into Samsung TVs. Anyways, I have a bunch of video I took from CES I need to go through. I’ll see if I can put some together for SmartThings specifically.
Was there any talk/speculation about the future of Z-Wave on the SmartThings platform? Or any upcoming new hubs supporting same?
Nope, no news about zwave and Aeotec wasn’t at the show other than some of their existing devices on the WWST wall.
Here’s a link to Samsung’s news items that are tagged with SmartThings.
