Cannot Add Sonos Speakers to Smartthings App

I also believe that Sonos as a partner should be pushing smartthings/Samsung to fix this, but they are not

OK… I’ll bite! Which YouTube smart home leaders? You mentioned it so you should go ahead and point them out for full disclosure

You have always had your head in the sand JPK when it comes to objectivity and the ST platform. Here is one. Time to face the music.

ST is a shadow of what it was meant to be and believe me I am more sad than unhappy about it That is what happens when your tech support runs people around the block with incompetence and the platform itself doesn’t run adequate testing before deployment.

There is a huge opportunity in this market because of the brilliance and ingenuity out there. Samsung should take pause to realize it.

mark 2:35 of that video. He never mentions “ditching” ST but only that it lacks “advanced features”.

hardly in the sand. I use multiple platforms. I find Apple Home app and homekit to be the most reliable platform (for myself). Everyone has their own “choices” as to which platform is best suited for them. Nothing wrong with that. But every platforms has their shortcomings. Personally I find Google Home to be incomplete and their integration of Google Nest has been a disaster.

But the whole point was you mentioned “leaders” recommending “ditching” ST and I wanted more info on that comment so thanks for responding.

Now back to the point, Sonos does not work with smartthings and neither company has fixed it.

While neither Sonos nor Samsung Tech Support could ever figure this out, I did manage to troubleshoot and experiment to the point I was able to get both my Samsung R1, R3 and R5 speakers (which by the way ST support still argues can’t be done) as well as my Sonos speakers to be recognized in smartthings as speakers. To the desired end, now I can select and use them within ST routines to make verbal announcements as outcomes of ST routines/events.

I cannot figure out why I had to do what I had to do but at least they are now recognized and visible in smartthings and all speakers are available to make verbal notifications from within smartthings.

If I can fix this, no telling why all the “engineers” kept running me around the block with repeated and recurrent screenshot requests and nothing but frustrating recycled requests for information that went absolutely no where in the end.

Good for you! Are you even able to adjust or set the (Sonos) volume?

Yes the slider for the volume adjust works normally.

:frowning: ow long have you gotten them to stay connected? I can get Sonos Roams to connect, they just randomly lose connection.

It’s a known issue and discussed in this topic.

Been connected to them for a couple days now. Will let this post know if they disconnect randomly as described. So far they are stable.

They have never disconnected, as an update.

Also got notified that my post about making excuses for lack of solutions and acceptance of mediocrity was removed because it violated terms. Lol, yeah right!

I moved over to Home Assistant and have never been happier. Way more powerful than SmartThings and things actually work, along with being much faster. I should have made the jump a year ago.

Same issue. What was the trick to getting the Sonos speakers to be picked up by SmartThings?
