charging for a device and then hitting you with a monthly fee to use said device is pretty deplorable.

This is exactly why I have abandoned MyQ, Ring, my old sprinkler timer, etc.

I can’t remember the name of the sprinkler timer company, but I was glad they went belly up within a year of forcing all the customers that made them successful to a ludicrous subscription model for features that were previously included in the price of the device.

For my garage doors (1 dumb and 1 MyQ), I gave up on hope for MyQ integration about a year ago, I just use the following method. It is a bit more complicated to set up for a MyQ opener, but is rock solid once set up.

Is it Possible to Connect a SmartSwitch Directly to a MyQ Circuit Board?

In my testing, I discovered that I could just short out the button switch on the circuit board of the wall mounted button with a cheep relay turned on for 2 seconds (simulating a momentary press). On my MyQ opener, the wall mounted button sends some digital code or encrypted message via the two wires to the opener, so connecting anything directly to the opener was not an option. Here is an example of my setup connected to a dumb garage door opener, but you could modify this and connect the relay directly to the button switch on the circuit board of the wall mounted button. I recommend combining this with a camera, and perhaps other sensors, in the garage to mitigate some of the other concerns that have been raised.
