Hello. I’ve just bought some new smartbulbs And have installed them into my lamps which have three way touch switches. I’ve read online that they should turn on in at least one of the switch states but I can’t get them on at all. The previous bulbs were dumb LEDs so no issues there. Please let me know how I can fix this! Thank you
Smart bulbs need full voltage and should never be placed in a 3-way socket or a dimmable lamp. A touch lamp is also a problem because it probably starts in the off state.
While you are waiting for some more expert advice here are my thoughts.
When you say ‘touch’ switches, I presume these are not physical on/off (make/break circuit) switches.
Do the switches have a wired neutral? (In the UK, where I am based many switches only have positive and switched wires; or positive, L1, and L2/ L1, L2, and switched in the case of 2 way circuits).
If there is no negative then it is likely that the ‘touch’ switches derive power by briefly making/breaking the circuit, which would upset non-dimmable or smart bulbs.
Just my thoughts.
Postscript: Sorry, I thought you were referring to 3-way wiring circuit.
3-way lamp sockets (the kind that provide low, medium and high) will usually provide full power on the high setting. Put in a dimmable non-smart bulb and turn the lamp to the high setting. Using a meter, see if you have a full 120V. If so, then try the smart bulb.
If that works, unscrew and remove the lamp’s turn know to prevent that setting from being changed.
