BMW + SmartThings

BMW as a Thing on the SmartThings Platform is still in development. This blog post talks about both the in-car dashboard integration (available now for Android) as well as what BMW as a Thing would look like.

The Garage feature in the in-car integration works with our Linear garage door openers.

I see. I have the MyQ garage door opener supported on ST with Community code so it won’t work with that.

Any estimate for iOS release?

Please refrain from using offensive language in the community. I have edited your post above.

Can’t wait for phase 2. I have the same car as demoed and rushed back home to see if I could remove the presence tag from the car and add it as a thing instead. Only read it properly now that it will be at a later date.
Is it too early to ask for an eta? Is it weeks months or years away?

Or if a date cannot be provided perhaps information on whether the “2013 or later” is for BMWs regardless of the OS of the phone? My 2012 model has connected drive, apps, plus the remote “turn on the A/C, honk the horn, lock/unlock the doors, turn on its lights” etc. all working with iOS

However for Android to work I need a 2013 manufactured car

I would guess their official response is “in a matter of weeks” =P

I wish we could be more specific! But for right now, all we know is that it is on our roadmap. Happy to see all the enthusiasm for this integration though!

Oh dear. Hope it isn’t like the “roadmap” for nest integration which has taken years to get nowhere, officially anyway!

So just reaching for this but does anyone know if Windows Phone will be supported - doesnt look like it does it?

Kelli,

Are you by chance, part of the program? Just curious. If so, what do you drive?

On the roadmap? I read that everywhere on this forum. I am still waiting for my officially supported Yale lock to accept codes in the iOS app (officially). Though I am glad to know if I want to throw down $10k on new appliances, they would be supported.

Yeah, the entire platform is on a roadmap.

It should be outlawed to use the terms “SmartThings” and “BMW” in the same sentence.

I’m ashamed to own one of them…

Any news on this integration?

There’s another thread on this, available with the Android (Not BMWs strong point) app not yet for iOS though

This makes sense right? Samsung can’t demonstrate their new integration using an iPhone at CES.

Very true… regarding demo, Android and BMW do not play nicely together though so target audience will be very small. Granted ST + BMW owners (with connected drive) also small in the first place, perhaps 2000 in US/UK total right now?

Smartthings I believe have been historically releasing features into app releases simultaneously and timing also similar, but 2.0.7 saw BMW feature for the Android app, but it is still missing in 2.0.8 for iOS.

I don’t know…there are at least three people in my office that have BMWs and Smartthings. Maybe the number is higher than we think. Maybe the value is with BMW. Could they move a potential customer to a BMW from say an Audi because the BMW could be integrated into a home automation system? Not sure.

I like the idea of having the BMW be a thing, that was pretty cool. However, that was said to have been pie in the sky. I am not even sure that is under development.

You can add the bmw as a thing via the bmw labs widget. Doesn’t offer quite the same functionality but will be able to detect presence via ifttt without a ST arrival sensor. Downside is that you need to leave the ugly widget on display all the time.

Why are bmwgroup and connected_app not in the SmartThings directory, instead of littering the root level of sdcard.
