[BETA] Hue & Improved - Support for multiple Hue bridges!

Just hue bulbs.

On reflection, I believe this was due to a large amount of scenes on the bridge which was upgraded and transferred to it from a v1 bridge upgrade, which I just left there and never used

After resetting to factory settings, it picked right up.

Hopefully my rambling and trial and error will help someone installing this in future.

discovery of new bulbs / scenes have stopped working for me… any idea why?

I think I have 1 faulty hub… Sigh

App looks really good the only issue I have is that when I turn my hue group back on it always sets brightness to 100% rather than back to where it was. Other than this, great app.

This is a really great smartapp, thanks for developing! It is the only way I’ve found to successfully connect 2 hue bridges to SmartThings and have it work.

There has been a recent thread about a hue ā€œheartbeatā€ in the official Hue integration that will inform the SmartThings hub when a light is switched locally or with another app. This prevents waiting for the 5 minute poll to know when a light is turned on or off.

I noticed this SmartApp relies on polling the hub every 5 minutes to know light status. Would it be possible to integrate the ā€œheartbeatā€ functionality that is described in the following thread?

This is a minor issue and the ability to use 2 bridges is much more important to me than instantly knowing light status. Thanks again for developing and sharing this SmartApp!

Has anyone else had any success using any other method to connect 2 hue bridges to SmartThings?

I no longer maintain this app. Check out [UPDATED JAN 2017] Hue B Smart (Groups & Scenes) - Remove Popcorn Effect!. It is based on mine, and can handle multiple bridges, and is currently actively maintained. Not sure if it has the heartbeat functionality integrated, though. I now use that app instead of my own.

Thanks Alan. I appreciate the updated info, the app still works great regardless. I will transition my setup to the app you recommended. There wasnt much info around on running mutiple hue bridges and this was the first working app I came across in the community. Hopefully, if someone comes to this thread in the future, they will find Hue B Smart as well.

Thanks again!

As a follow-up to the last post, I had a hard time transitioning to the mentioned Hue B Smart App.

After removing the Hue & Improved app and all of the devices, I installed the Hue B Smart app and connected both of my bridges. I then started adding all of the bulbs through the setup process. So far, so good. Then, during discovery, the SmartThings app started crashing after discovering about 30 of my 100 lights. I removed all of the lights and had to go back and add them 25 at a time so SmartThings wouldn’t crash.

I finally have all 100 bulbs showing up and discovered after adding 25 at a time, but the performance of the Smartthings app and the performance of the lights is pretty poor.

I had no issues installing Hue & Improved, and the performance of SmartThings and the lights was great. It’s too bad you don’t maintain it anymore.

I’m not sure of the best method to control both of my bridges and 100 lights with ST… I hope the performance of the hub and app improve. I never had these issues before with over 100 Z-wave devices and ST… starting to think that the transition to hue bulbs was alluring but maybe not the best idea. :frowning:

It sounds like you’re using an old version of Hue-B-Smart. You add them one at a time in the new one, just like in my app. Make sure you’re using the one from this repo: https://github.com/tmleafs/Hue_B_Smart

Using the exact repo you linked and usign the github integration to pull in the SA and DHs.

What do you mean I add them one at a time… ? After connecting the bridges, I tap each bulb individually to import them, yes, but later when I go to ā€œAdd a Thingā€ (perhaps to add a zwave device or something else)… ST ā€œrediscoversā€ the bulbs… this is when the ST app was crashing.

Also… with my color hue bulbs, when I press the ā€œResetā€ button in the device screen (between the ā€œFlashā€ button and the ā€œColor Cycleā€ buttons) the bulb turns green. All of the color hues, saturations, and temps seem pretty out of whack. Does this happen with your setup or a sign something is really wrong with my install?

Thanks!
