I have never tried…I don’t think so as you don’t integrate the assistant with the Google Home app; however, if you find that you can normally control lights with it as is then my app will integrate as it simply uses virtual switches to control more complex activities.

hmm i was reading a little more into it just, the google home APP i have doesnt have the home control option that the google home app does when a google home is present. im not sure if its a different version of the app (because im in the uk where the home isnt officially out yet) or if its just an option that shows up when a home is on the network.
however the google assistant that on the pixel is very similar to that on the home, is opened up for external API’s and should work with things like netflix eventually. its different to the google now voice control of most other older phones that dont have the open api and never will.
ahh well when you app is available ill happily report my findings. if the google assistant API is opened up it would be interesting to see what its capable of from a smart phone
Yeah…after playing with both the Alexa an Google Home, the Alexa has a bit more of an edge with the home automation piece…mostly because of the open nature of the developer site and what other people have made it do…I hope Google allows for this deep of integration as it excels in pretty much every other areas that I use it for…including speed of response…Heck, it even sings happy birthday better than Alexa 
The phone and Google home is not the same. I have the pixel and will get Google home next week. There is no setting in the pixel for anything related to smart home with assistant or Google home app. I should be able to verify next week once I added Google home to the pixel Google home app.
And if it doesn’t work, then that is yet another missed opportunity for really great home automation…I think Amazon missed the boat by not creating a SmartPhone app that replaces Ok Google or Siri and let it tap into the power of Alexa. Now Google is missing it as well by not allowing your phone to control the home through the assistant…

Got my google home today. Been playing with it. Like it so far, with 2 exceptions.

1 is a big deal to us. I favored Google for calendar and Mapping integration that Alexa lack.
Why can’t every thing work with everything else?

Neither the Echo or Google Home can do this yet…I am betting Amazon does it before Google, but the announcements may be in the form of a ‘ding’ or a light, and THEN you must activate the speaker. Both companies appear to be very concerned with just having the speakers come on with no voice action from the end user.

I’m not sure about GH, but can you connect a cheap android phone to it via Bluetooth or a hard connection?
If yes, find a cheap android phone running Android 5.0 or higher. I got mine from Wal-Mart for 10.00 a piece. Install landroid on them and then media renderer in ST. Your phone then acts as a speaker in the ST environment and send the audio out to whatever it is connected to.
You can listen to audible on your Google home if you go to the Google home settings in the app and cast your phone’s audio before you start playing Audible. You can even do this to multiple speakers if you have Chromecast audio.

I am still getting requests to participate in the beta. While I am happy to oblige, I feel the app is about ready to be released…it could be as early as this weekend. As such, while I am always willing to take a donation (considering it is near Christmas), I am not sure you will get much value in participating as the app is almost completed.

It can. I have both 5 Google Homes and a Pixel XL with the assistant. While home and on my wifi I can do the same things via voice on my phone that I can do with GH.
Are you having any problems with your Pixel? I was just on their support site and saw that many users were having the same problems of “freezing and restarting” that the Pixel C had.

This is good to know. Assistant on Allo is for the birds (so is the app). It should be able to communicate across the Assistant universe in my opinion.
I have had it freeze once for about 20 seconds. Then resume. I don’t remember what I was doing. Otherwise it’s been great. I have not played with the assistant extensively. But I did sneak in some Home Automation phrases and they worked exactly like my GHs do. Once off my wifi though it could not handle those commands.
I agree, the assistant needs to be consistent! In the month I’ve had the GHs. I can absolutely tell that the back end is learning. My family uses it more and more as time goes on. Plus with the GHs all through the house. I tend to rely on my phone less because of them.
I like where the platform is going…I just hope the continue to develop it and it doesn’t stop like other google products have in the past.
