Those are both good locks, but since neither works with SmartThings, not a good match for most people in this forum, which is for users of the SmartThings system.
OK⌠If you are looking for the one which works well with SmartThings then you can check Kwikset 910 Z-Wave. Not sure whether its good or not.
Personally, I think Schlage and Yale are the better options. They have great battery life, very feature rich, allowing for a better home automation experience. Also one should look for ANSI Grade 1 locks for maximum protection, the Kwikset 910 is a ANSI Grade 2 lock.
It is my experience that Kwikset is a lo-end âbargain brandâ lockset. Whatâs your experience with this on SmartThings?
I have a Kwikset, Schlage and a Yale smart lock.
The Schlage is my favorite, but honestly, thereâs really no difference between it and the Kwikset, functionally. It is by no means low end or bargain brand lockset. If anything, it is the easiest to rekey, thanks to their SmartKey tech.
And it works great with ST.
Whatâs your experience been like?
I have 2 Yale T1L Z-Wave locks and they work very well. Great support from @RBoyâs app and good battery life.
Hey @mejifair can you remotely program your T1L Z-Wave locks using @RBoy 's app? Iâm trying to set mine up and remotely program it plus I want to have the unlock turn off my alarm. Cheers
Yes - the app can do everything that you mentioned. In addition, you can trigger basically any activity for each unique code that you create. So if you only wanted one code to disarm the security, or another code to disarm only if the mode is away you can do that. It is super flexible and rock solid.
Edit - in addition to setting up codes remotely, you can also set them to be one-time use, expire at a certain time or name them what you want so that you know who is using the codes.
Thanks so much for the feedback⌠Iâm off to do it now. Cheers
Jumping in for same questions only I need a keypad for dumb entry as well.
Schlage Connect allow me to do this? Matched our handle trim.
Yes it can
I use the schillage connect with the added door handles zwave and itâs very nice. I disabled the auto lock on the schillage and have a contact sensor on the door. So when the door is closed for 5 minutes, it locks during the day, in the evening it locks after 1 minute I believe. Also, if the contact sensor is open, the deadbolt in smartthings is programmed to not lock (avoid those ugly marks on the inside of the door from closing it while the bolt is out). It uses the built-in ST app lock manager. I can create codes for entry and delete them in the built in app as well, including automations like if somebody comes home, unlock it etc. Iâm very pleased with this lock!

Hey - how do you have it set to no autolock if the contact sensor is open? I have a Yale T1L that locks when you touch the screen, and if I brush it with my arm when I walk in it closes and dents the door frame.
What are you using to prevent it from locking if the contact sensor is open?
the âFront Door Lockâ built in smart app in smartthings. Itâs labeled as âautomatically unlock the door when openâ i found 5 seconds is a pretty good setting. I havenât ever seen it even try to lock while open and itâs been a few months at least.
I have webcore setup to let me know if the locked gets jammed, like if the door is slightly ajar. I havenât had that happen yet since it doesnât rain here in Arizona, US. So the door never swells lol.
If youâre using the Lock Code User Management SmartApp, under Door Open/Close action you can tell it automatically unlock if it detects that door locks while open (you can assign a door contact sensor in the same page). Itâll also prompt you if autolock is enabled in the lock itself and ask you to disable it do that the SmartApp can take care of it in software instead of the hardware.
@Rboy - is there a way to prevent the door from even locking if it is open? With the Yale locks, all I have to do is brush the touch pad with my arm and it auto locks. I still want the auto lock so that people can lock it just by touching the screen, but only if it is closed.
Is this even possible?
Erik
The Auto Relock and One Touch locking are two separate functions, at least on my T1L (YRd120-zw) locks.
You are looking to turn the Auto Relock off so that it doesnât lock if you have the door open, and turn on the One touch lock. However, if you press (on my lock), the lower left hand corner it will lock the door regardless if it is opened.
And if you have an open close sensor on the door and the door is open and the lock is unlocked, immediately unlock it with a Routine or WC.
I wonder if a routine would be fast enough? I can try WebCoRE to see if that is fast enough. The problem is that the âclosingâ action starts after the door has already started swinging shut. Itâs that fastâŚyou know how you push the door open and as you walk by the outside of your arm brushes the touchpad on the lock and as you walk through it has started the locking procedure and you are too late to turn around to stop it from slamming against the trim.
I wish there was a way to force a global âno locking allowed if door is in open positionâ based upon the results of the open/close sensor attached to the door. That way, no matter what was pressed on the screen it wouldnât lock.
there is, open the lock after open 1 seconds in the built in app lock manager.
In order for the Z1L to have the Touch Lock work, there is a very very small spot on the lower left hand corner of the lock ( â) that must be pushed for it to lock. If you touch anywhere else, it does nothing, so I canât say I have ever brushed it and caused it to accidentally lock. Plus it sounds like your door is spring loaded to where it automatically swings shut. My door is just a normal door that you turn the handle, push it open, walk inside, turn around and manually close the door shut. It would be nice if you could have the lock auto configure itâs options immediately on the fly as to whether the door was in an open position and disable auto Relock until door was closed.
It almost sounds like in your case, you would be better off having Auto Relock enabled (let it Relock after 30 seconds) and disable the One Touch so that you canât brush against it and have it lock on you. This way you always have time for the door to swing close and lock on its own versus the accidental locking. And then add a widget on the home screen of your phone that runs a Lock Routine (thatâs your one touch).
