Belkin ending support for most of its Wemo smart home accessories on January 31, 2026

Surprised it lasted this long.

Terrible product.

Glad the article mentions this:

Belkin also raised eyebrows back in 2023 when it announced it was taking a “big step back” from Matter, the new standard that promises to unite the big smart home ecosystems.

So the “regroup and rethink” was not about Matter after all but the whole involvement in the smart home industry.

I don’t have any Wemo devices, but I know a lot of people who do have (a lot) of them in their homes since they were sold everywhere; home stores, Costco, Amazon…

Hopefully another smart home company will step up and take over this Belkin fiasco so that millions of people who have these devices won’t get discouraged and just give up on the smart home ecosystem altogether because that’s what I’m hearing the people I know saying about this nightmare.

BTW, the people I know that have Wemo didn’t even know about this happening since they are not seeing any notifications in the Wemo app about anything.

Belkin sales other products, so I’m sure their other sales will take a massive hit when the people who own these products stop buying anything branded Belkin because of this fiasco.

I think it’s more the other way around: it’s likely that over 95% of customers of other Belkin products don’t have any of the WeMo devices. So Belkin probably won’t even notice if the WeMo customers all jump ship to other brands for their cables and chargers.

Just a reminder that support ends this week for most of the Wemo Smart Home accessories… if you happen to still have them in use.

I’m surprised that my Wemo plugs/ Insight are still working and available in Smartthings, though the Insight is not showing energy/power draw.

I’ve had to block access to a .iot.us-east-1.amazonaws.com domain as the wemo devices are dialing that domain constantly.

Wow!

Even though this isn’t a WeMo forum, thanks for posting this.

I just checked my router and see over 165,000 request for this .a38uzlrxc8a6s4-ats.iot.us-east-1.amazonaws.com domain in the last 24 hours. SHEESH! I’m also seeing a few other domain hosts, .api.xbcs.net and .nat.wemo2.com, getting lots of DNS hits as well.

I wonder if this will cause issues with other devices or services :man_shrugging:

Not as far as I can tell. I only have the plugs/sockets and all are working OK in SmartThings and Home Assistant.
