I haven’t heard anything either. SmartThings did implement other features nobody asked for, like video capabilities with Samsung cameras that I don’t own. I hope August integration is not being ignored.
At the moment the August API does not offer support for real time updating of the state of the lock. We plan to revisit this when the API changes.
Is August receptive to making the needed API changes?
Hey… I noticed SmartThings demo’ed the August Doorlock on TechCrunch on January 6th, 2014. Check out this 4 minute and 40 second video at the 4:00 mark - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4drJtFyxU4
Surely, SmartThings has something ready for the public by now.
That’s correct! We demoed a proof of concept integration in early 2014.
Unfortunately the published August API still does not support the functionality required for us to publish an official integration. We’re keeping a very close eye on it.
Thanks!
Has that proof of concept code been added to IDE?
No, we have not added any code related to August to the IDE or our public repo.
August recently added integration for Nest cameras and thermostats, Logitech Harmony, and Xfinity Home. Is there something different about SmartThings that is preventing you guys from making it work?
Any update on that? I’d like to know if I could buy one and integrate it to smartthings…
Same here August lock and nest products are top of my personal list.
This is especially frustrating to me because it is the primary reason I went with Smartthings. This announcement of the 2.0 Hub specifically said that it was going to pair with August Locks:
"New Integrations on the Open Platform
A plethora of new devices will soon join the many connected products that already work on SmartThings’ open platform. These include:
• Netgear and D-Link cameras
• Somfy window shades
• Racchio water irrigation system
• Chamberlain garage door openers
• August locks"
It doesn’t say “may join”, it doesn’t say “it is possible”, it says “will soon join.” Smartthings published this article in January 2015.
All things are vaporware, until they are released
Also says chamberlain garage lol
In their defense though it does say “soon”
And now there is the August Doorbell Cam. I’m getting more and more interested in August if they are going to play nice with SmartThings.
I love my August smart lock just wish it could talk to smart things.
I attempted to go down this path and used a combination of virtual switches and virtual locks to try and get this to work however from my deduction Harmony does not allow third party control of Home Control activities that have a Lock assigned to them. Meaning if you have a Logitech Home Control Activity that controls your August Lock that Activity cannot be executed by a Third Party system like SmartThings or IFTTT. My guess this is a security measure.
Thanks for the detailed info, back to square one then. Lol
So why can Logitech overcome the needed technical hurdles and SmartThings cannot. I wouldn’t have thought that Logitech has been engineers? Say it ain’t so!!!
Yeah that’s where I’m questioning SmartThings pushing the blame on August and that their API’s doesn’t have what they need. Logitech is able to communicate with the August Cloud API and control the lock for Home Control. Why can’t ST, I’m not sure what ST’s issues are with the API since Logitech is able to integrate over August Connect. @Tyler can you explain more when you say this:
