Thanks for all the great info Boris! So it sounds like Ring is much better as a “door bell / 2-way communication system” then? I think then I may return the Arlo Pro and get the Arlo since I really only needed the two-way part for the door bell replacement.
I have a mix of pro and non pro cameras - but a pro base station, which my understanding is quite a bit better (and supports the backup saving of video to a usb device attached to the base station as well as a siren which I don’t believe the non pro base station had) - the only other “big” feature of the pro, if recording directly via arlo, is the ability to record motion “until it stops - up to 5 minutes” I believe - this feature is a mixed bag but does work, and of course there is the whole battery situation - which is a whole other thing - despite being superior in terms of motion detection and night vision, non pro refurbs can be had for $100 on amazon, pro for $140-160 I have a hard time recommending pro cameras for most uses.
Isn’t the delay/lag minimized in the pro model vs the non pro? This is the biggest improvement that makes the extra cost worth it in my mind.
it’s better I suppose, but I can’t say it’s substantially better quite frankly - what I have found worked best - as a work in progress - is placing some kind of device (ring doorbell, another arlo) in some way that when it detects motion, trigger recording “up the chain” as it were independent of the motion detection of those devices - very much dependent on how your environment is laid out
Sorry, not tryin to continue this as it is off-topic, but check out this link comparing the lag between the pro and non-pro. As you can see, the difference is fairly significant. Large enough that you can miss the subject that triggered the motion. I guess if the person is stationary in front of the camera’s line of site for a period of time it’s moot, but i think if we’re talking about 40$, it might be worth considering the upgrade. I get your point about using another motion detector upstream, but adding more devices to initiate the action introduces increased potential for errors and some people may want something to just “work” out of the box.
I’m sure it’s better but in my experience it’s still not that great… it’s just physics with any camara that is battery powered
sorry, here is the link…
That is a great video, just wish there was an upgrade / tradein plan for my old arlos
Yes, especially since the Pro was released not long after. Also adds the convenience of 2-way radio which also may be worth the extra cost.
I’m using 4 Arlo Pros & getting really frustrated with this farce of an integration.
I was using Arlo Pro in Armed mode, ST mode deleted, and ST was enabling/disabling the cams, but the motion & audio config in ST was defaulting to 80%/3 regularly so I was getting lots of false alarms.
Then I tried removing the connect from ST, disarming in the Arlo app, renaming the default cam names, re-adding the Pro to allow it to re-add the ST mode in the Arlo app.
The ST mode mixes up the cams so that motion on CamA triggers recording on CamC, motion on CamB triggers recording on CamA, etc. Totally screwed, so I rearrange the cams in the ST mode. Set the mode in the Arlo app to ST, & in ST, I set the cams’ motion & audio sensitivity which mirrors within the ST mode in the Arlo app… Works great… for a little while, then the cams start getting reset again to default names & settings, & jumbled triggers/actions.
Did I really spend the best part of £900 on this crap?
Who supports this? Netgear or ST?
Thanks
Eddie
Yeah, having same issue here. This thread started back on 04/04/17; you’d figure there’d be a fix by now. Very annoying.
2.4.2 version of the iOS app released yesterday, but I haven’t had a chance to play with it. Seems like arlo baby and bug fixes. Mine’s been stable for whatever reason and I’m worried about it going back to random mode.
My Arlo Pro Security Camera seem to be stable too since the latest update. Hope it keeps being this way.
I am having the same problem. Still waiting for a fix.
I thought I had gone mad…
How do I set it to stop recording/monitoring completely when presence sensor is present then? I tried native functions on routine and home security setup and none of them seem to de-active the camera completely and there seems to be no way of making the camera goes live once it’s deactivated in either Arlo or Smartthings app.
Hours of research that I’ll never get back
I always keep Arlo armed. I use presence and other SmartThings rules to turn cameras on / off as needed. This has worked well for me, I only disarm Arlo when I’m outside like when mowing.
Just bought an Arlo Pro system because of ST integration and discovered this issue within hours of install. Was hoping there would be a fix mentioned here, but no. Come on Sammy fix this problem!
Same issue here - Following to see if/when there is an update. (FYI I thought I was insane! LOL). Good to see it wasn’t me
anything new?
Hi All
New to the forum but have been reading for a while.
Just bought a 3-set of the new ArloPro cameras after a dissapointing test with the iSmartAlarm Spot cameras. They are better than the spots but i seem to suffer from the same issues as you are here. I just emailed SmartThings support on another matter and as i was getting their attention (very fast replies) i thought i would bring this thread up. They are aware of this and they are working on it.
Thanks to you all for suggesting the routines/on & Off settings and cameras in Armed mode. Its a bit of pain to have to turn them on if you want to to check something while away but hey, it works for now…
Apart from this extreme case scenario when Arlo Siren went off but not Smartthings as …it was never triggered:
- We use life360 as presence
- We have dogs so i never set it to Away, just Armed -home
- Family is at home but for some reason life360 reported as away
- ST Armed Home setting kicks in that activates the Arlo BUT
- The Porch door was open as kids were playing outside.
- Kid walks in, i get an alarm from Arlo but NOT from ST as the sensor at the door was never triggered.
- What a scenario eh?
I think in my case it is the wife’s Nexus 5X that is the problem as it does not seem to reliably report back to Life 360 unlike my Pixel XL. She has had multiple false alarms when at home whereas i very rarely have any.
