In a Prime day moment of FOMO I picked up 6 Aqara SJCGQ11LM leak sensors and their M2 hub. I failed to do my homework before buying.
Digging thru the forum I think I can link the Aqara M2 hub to my SmartThings V2 hub via Matter over Wi-Fi and have it bring the leak sensors along.
Or, possibly connect the SJCGQ11LM sensors directly to my SmartThings V2 hub via a driver from @Mariano_Colmenarejo
I believe that, if I use the Aqara hub. the leak sensors will be on their own Zigbee mesh to that hub. Connecting them to the SmartThings would make them part of its Zigbee mesh with about 20 other Zigbee devices.
So… not sure what my question is… having a bit of angst and looking for opinions/guidance/experience with these devices.
My only experience using Aqara sensors with ST drivers was less than optimal. My Aqara contact sensors would frequently go offline. After moving them to my M2 hub, they have been flawless when bringing into ST via Matter.
I also bought some of the leak sensors and will be integrating them the same way.
I’ve got my Aqara M2 hub set up and all six leak sensors connected. The most distant sensor shows the Zigbee signal strength as “Adequate” in the Aqara app.
Bad news is that after getting the M2 hub added to my SmartThings V2 hub via Matter there are no child devices listed for the M2 hub.
I guess that means the M2 hub will not bridge the SJCGQ11LM sensors. Ah well. All I need from them is a notification if they get wet and the Aqara app will handle that.
Out of curiosity I tried linking the Aqara M2 hub to Google Home via Matter. I don’t have any Google Home devices other than Pixel Tablet and Nest cameras.
Google connected and the Google Home app can see things like the M2 hub’s firmware. But the M2 hub shows as offline in the Google Home app.
Was worth a shot but didn’t help. Rebooted from the Advanced Web site. After everything came back still no child devices under the M2 hub.
I’m aware that Aqara only bridges some devices over Matter, just haven’t been able to turn up a reliable list. Other than rolling the Aqara leak sensors in with my older Samsung Zigbee leak sensors it’s not a big deal.
Welp… the two leak sensors most distant from the Aqara M2 hub have fallen offline. So I’m hunting the Internet for a zigbee repeater that will work with Aqara.
I’ve got one of the Enbrighten outlets linked below in place to help my SmartThings Zigbee mesh. It’s listed as unavailable or I’d buy one for the Aqara mesh.
