Yes and Yes (see the HubConnect app in Hubitat). Even better, when you add a custom device handler in Hubitat, it runs locally on the hub.
(there is no cloud in Hubitat, which makes it similar to the approach SmartThings is moving to, in that you need to host your own. but, it defaults to being hosted on the hub. If you need more hosting power, add another hub or other local device, like a Raspberry Pi running Node-Red)
i tried doing the migration today. the new app doesnât support selecting âhoursâ before or after sunset for routines anymore, just 60 minutes max. because the new app doesnât support Hours before/after sunset, it was unable to migrate some of my routines from the old app to the new app and i got a migration error. the routines that had settings to turn on lights hours before sunset wouldnât migrate as there is no option in the new app for hours before sunset.
i was had to manually import the routines and delete the old routines before migration would work.
what a joke.
where can i report this bug? the smartthings tech support email is completely useless.
We are working on a replacement for groovy DTHs but for a while yet the hub connected devices will use groovy and the IDE. Once we have a replacement ready, there will be a closed beta and many announcements. I will be communicating we developers more down the road on what that looks like and how the transition will work.
the problem with this for me and I assume others, is that many of us have more than one locaton (ie seasonal summer house) if they are automated and empty we cannot reaally convert all our stuff on a dime and test without effectively being at that location. Are you going to give us a year after your notice before you pull the Plug on groovy?
Itâs not going to happen overnight. There are going to be announcements about the timelines as we get closer to realizing the goal. Right now we are focused on making custom groovy devices work with the current app, we arenât encouraging developers to do a bunch of throw away work.
I noticed the same thing after coming back home and realizing that my house was unlocked for 6 hours with no alarms.
Does anyone have the classic app version 2.19 still? If so, sharing the .ipa file would be greatly appreciated. Iâd love to downgrade to that working version.
I would like to know as well. When I get into my garage, it was very handy to be able to disarm my alarm and unlock the door from my watch before getting out of the car.
You can do this with IFTTT. It has an Apple Watch app. So it just depends on how long the typical lag is for you. At my house itâs a pretty consistent eight seconds, which is good enough for most things.
I was told by support that she would put it in as a feature request.
Being in the industry, that means they have no plans, whatsoever to do it, but if they have a developer sitting on his butt doing nothing, they might give the project to him.
So, I wouldnât hold your breath.
In fact, Iâve been asking the question since the new app came out a couple years ago, and this was the first time ANYONE responded. They have been just ignoring me for two years or so.
Additionally, since Samsung took over Smartthings, there has been one annoying thing after another. So I finally bought a Habitat hub, and will be moving over to that soon. It runs everything locally, so when my internet is down, things will still work. Itâs also much more secure.
Still, no watch app, but at least they are serious about getting one.
Iâm going to be getting rid of my Samsung TV, too. The same thing by LG is better made and less expensive.
Itâs really a shame how a big company buys up a really good small company, then ruins it. But itâs the typical process in the IT world. I worked for small companies that were bought by McAfee and FireEye. Both times, within a year, the original small companyâs products were total crap.
Thatâs what is happening to SmartThings.
Just get out before you waste more money on it, or youâll get screwed even more.
