Alexa Voice Assistant on Samsung Q800D Activation fail

Hello,

I bought a Samsung soundbar Q800D/ZC. It’s advertised to have Bixby and Alexa Built-in.
I’m failing to enable Alexa since Day-1.
FYI: I was able to have Bixby enable, just to test after Alexa failed.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open SmartThing app (I tested on iOS, iPadOS and Android, no luck each time).
  • Open the Soundbar control
  • Access Service tab on the bottom
  • Access “Voice Assistant Settings”
  • Select “Alexa”.
  • Start the registration process: Sign In, Continue, Log into Amazon, Tap “Allow”
  • The popup window close and a loading animation starts.
  • After approx 10sec, the animation disappears, and Alexa is still not enabled.
  • New message in the “Voice Assistant Settings” : “Alexa Settings / Settings have not been completed. Click to continue setup.”
  • Click on the message
  • Click again on Sign In / Continue / Allow
  • Loading animation for 10 sec and then it stops.

In the end, I’m not able to either use the Alexa Built-In the soundbar (like advertised) or even send music on the soundbar through other Echo devices…

Can someone help? @Lars ?

Try setting a different default browser on your phone or tablet

Tried on iOS, iPadOS and Android with Safari and Chrome. Nothing worked.

I opened a ticket with Samsung Smarthings’ support… They sure know how to make difficult and ignore all the details we give them… They were of no help.

Bumping the issue once again. I cannot be the only one with this issue?

Perhaps not, though this perhaps isn’t the best forum to encounter the others. The focus of this forum is the SmartThings smart home platform, which has unfortunately (in my opinion) lent its name to Samsung’s mobile app which is a hybrid of the apps for Samsung’s home appliances and SmartThings. The user base here has some advanced knowledge and skills with SmartThings but only incidental knowledge of Samsung appliances if they happen to also own them.

Same problem here, I’ve tried everything I found online. I bought this s**** over another model just because the Alexa built in.

And to be honest I don’t think it’s gonna work, on reddit I read hundreds of people complaining about Smart thing app, lot of bugs and issues.

Hey… I make it work. But you will need to do it using an android device.

I was thinking about what could be wrong and decided to test some old version of the app.

And using this version SmartThings 1.8.33.25 I finally make it work. So when you click sign in, just wait don’t click twice, a few seconds later Amazon website will popup, than will redirect to the app again, after this a few seconds more will show a message. Alexa connected.
