Alexa + ST: Alexa not finding devices

Hi Guys–

My issue is as follows…

  1. Have about 45 z-wave devices ( lights, switches)
  2. Alexa is not able to find the 2 out 45 devices. She states " Sorry I couldn’t find dinning room light" in Sam’s account.

Devices are named as follows which I am having the issues

  1. Dinning room light
  2. Dinning room chandlier

So far I have tried

  1. reinstalling Alexa
  2. deleted and pair the devices ( switches again)
  3. renaming the device name.

For some reason creating a group in Alexa and then adding the devices would work but then if I try to use that, she says there are more than 1 devices with that name group ( in my case “dinning”)

Anyone seen this behavior?

Thanks
Sam

Did you check in the Amazon echo app inside of the smartapps tab that you had authorized those two devices?

Have you tried spelling it “dining” instead of “dinning” when naming the devices?

Tyler,

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll give it a try and revert back.

  1. Is it not finding them when you issue a command, or does it not find them when discovering devices ?

  2. The default error response for every Alexa error is that it can’t find the device, or that it found multiple devices with that name, followed by " which one did you want ? ".

  3. Alexa has been a royal PIA the last few days between arguing I have multiple kitchens when I say turn off the kitchen lights, to just spinning once & giving me an error " BOOP" when I asked it to start the car this morning. ( Yes a real 1stWorldProblem to actually pick up the phone or key fob to warm up the car in the morning, I know ) Looking back at the logs the transcription was right ,so it was just another error on the cloud end. Of course Amazon will never ever admit that they ever have any issues on their end. 2 of my Echoes were offline for quite a while today and just replied with " I’m having trouble understanding right now". Strange thing is the Dots were all working fine, it only effected the Echoes. I rebooted them both about 10 pm and it took about 5 minutes of spinning ring before they actually connected to server.

That did the trick for me, only if i could spell things correctly  Thanks for getting back

@RLDreams

I didn’t have a problem with discovering the devices at all. I just didn’t spell 2 of them correctly and therefore Alexa wasn’t finding the devices.
