Aeotec pico shutter

Hello again!

Now I have trouble with an Aeotec Pico Shutter:
the window is open, but the ST app shows “closed”. If you press “close”, the shutter closes, the app says “open”… I also get a crisis when calibrating the shutters.
Is anyone else desperate here?
I have installed the Pico Shutter Generic Driver.

Thank you!
Ansgar

Try installing the zigbee windows treatment edge driver. See link in following post: https://community.smartthings.com/t/aeotec-pico-shutter-no-longer-connects-after-resetting-it/280276/14?u=jkp

Yes, I read the post and I had the same problem with a Pico. But I was able to reset it (press for 12sec! no longer, no shorter!) and I was able to integrate it again.
I had already tried the other driver. Without any change.
But the display in the app is annoying. It also constantly switches between “open” and “closed” among the three shutters I have…
Crazy smartthing!

If you don’t find your answer here… you can contact the Aeotec Help desk to check if they can assist.

Yes, so I did. First of all I have installed the generetic driver for pico shutter.
I think this one should be the right one/best one?!

Unfortunately I don’t know. I’d suggest contacting Aeotec to check.

Look what I mean: (without touching anything)

I have opened a Ticket at Aeotec and keep you informed.

Good news,
the pico shutter edge driver is being re-developed.

Hi all. I’ve been wrestling the Pico Shutter a couple of months ago when it first became available.

There is more than one problem with this device:
#1 Device Firmware keeps reporting status as “100% open” in 10-minute intervals, interleaved with a correct report of the actual percentage.
#2 Device Firmware has the zigbee commands for “open” and “close” swapped.
#3 Aeotec’s Edge driver does not expose all the advertised features (like the 2nd endpoint for tilt (slat fold) control, or direction reversal for when you’ve wired it up wrong).
#4 There is widespread disagreement across the documentation about which way is up. There are contradicting wiring diagrams, and the engineering guide says 0% is Open and 100% is Closed while everyone else has it 100%=Open and 0%=Closed.

#1 and #2: These are observed with generic driver as well as Aeotec driver, so I’m positive these are in the device firmware not the drivers.
#3: The quick start guide in the packaging has the correct wiring. S2/Q2 are Up, S1/Q1 are Down.
#4 Matter-of-factly, 100% is fully open and 0% is fully closed.

I had reported all that to Aeotec Support, and after a few rounds of exchange and experiment, including logfiles pulled from SmartThings CLI, they agreed this needs to be worked on. Sadly, they eventually stopped reporting back altogether, and neither new firmware nor driver updates have appeared since.

However, the device isn’t completely unusable if you mind a few things:

(1) Use the generic “Zigbee Window Treatment” driver.
(2) In Routines, use percentages not Open/Close commands.
(3) Do not attempt to steer to 100%. Du to problem #1 above, if the last status reported was a false 100%, your command will be ignored. Use 95 to 99 percent instead.
(4) Alexa users: Commands to go to 0% or 100% will map to the Open/Close commands not a “go to percentage” command, and will thus go the wrong way. Percentages from 1 to 99 will work.

Yes I can confirm lots of things you have mentioned…but really: for me, the AeroShutter is not usable, because I can´t trust the information showing in the smarthings-app.
So I will wait until the new driver will be published, hope soon…

Hottest news from Aeotec:

The Pico Shutter edge driver has been updated:

Driver Id a08a9eaf-3363-4912-b07f-01f1019d566a
Name Pico Shutter Generic
Package Key zigbee-window-treatment
Version 2024-09-02T19:08:45.775960177

We´ll see what happend.

Great, thanks for the notification. I’m going to give it a spin when I return home tonight.

Done … and there is some progress.

“Open” and “Close” commands now work in the correct direction - both from SmartThings UI and from Alexa-via-SmartThings voice command.

However, while the shutters physically do move towards 100% fully-open and 0% fully-closed as expected, the UI still thinks 100% is closed and 0% is open.

Thirdly, the driver still does not support configuring the device to reverse directions (in case you did the wiring wrong).

Finally, the log still shows the device reports 100% and the actual state back and forth in ten-minute intervals. This happens with any driver, so I’d put this down as a device firmware bug. (The firmware does not have an update available.) This affects routines, for if you have a routine that wants to go to 100% and you happen to hit the time window where it falsely reports 100%, the routine does nothing. (My workaround is to have the routines go to 99%.)

Yes, the same for me.
Better, but I don’t think it’s good yet.
In the ‘history’, the roller blinds still go up and down in a funny way…

Thanks for confirming. I see the log report snap to 100% and back to what it actually is every ten minutes exactly.

Like I said, it does that with either driver (generic and Aeotec), so I’m pretty convinced it’s a firmware bug.

It’s not a firmware error, it’s the periodic reporting settings device so the hub knows if it’s online or offline.

I get that the device is supposed to report status on a regular basis - but this one reports an endless sequence of wrong status and correct status.

Example: (actual status is 95%)

I cannot analyze these reports since I do not know the code for this aeotec driver.

This device is not in any stock driver or in mine Mc driver and can be paired with them as a generic device.

In the stock driver it would work inverted

In mine you could reverse the operation with the reverse preference in settings.

To see if the erroneous reports disappear you should reinstall the device and configure it with the driver you use, since any update or driver change does not configure the device reports and if it was incorrectly configured with a previous driver then it maintains that incorrect configuration with any driver until you pair it again.

I see, thanks. I won’t try this anytime soon though, for reinstalling these is not easily done. These switches are buried in the wall behind the physical switch, and to make it worse, the “action button” is on the backside. So you’d have to physically rip out everything to get to it.
