Aeon Labs Minimote with SmartThings?

The firmware worked for me as well!

Currently I have the Minimote in the bedroom for my wife to use (since I work a bunch of nights). Here’s how I have it configured:

Button 1: Press for bedroom lights on/off, hold for all lights on in the house
Button 2: Press for ‘Home’ mode
Button 3. Press for ‘Away’ (arm sensors, doors, and alarm)
Button 4. Hold for Panic mode (turns on all lights, siren, and sends a text to me that the panic button has been pushed)

For $25 spent on the remote, it really helps with your significant other to justify the other $$$$ spent on Smartthings sensors/switches and installing them without having to fumble through your phone to get stuff to work!

What smartapp you use on ST app ?

@nico89s ButtonController.

In the SmartSetup section, go to the last section “More”. Go to Convenience. There is a “use Devices with buttons” in there. You can configure the button presses in there.

Yea, don’t upgrade to the “latest”, that’s what broke it for me until I rolled it back to the v1-18 version. If it’s working now, leave it alone.

I just bought a minimote v1. I’m suffering from high latency and unreliable notification to ST (need to press many times before ST responds), before and after upgrading to the latest firmware. By comparison, I also have the Aeon multi-sensor, and its PIR state change notifications are much faster and more robust.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? I wonder if I should try my luck with a second v1 or buy a v2.

There is currently a recently appeared bug under investigation.

So I’d wait until that bug is fixed before conclusions.

Before bug, I was at least 80%+ reliable, probably more, if you don’t press the same button too soon.

Is there a way to make some feedback when button is pressed ?
For example, if I changed mode to home or night, light bulb can act like indicator lamp, I mode successful changed, the lamp will blink
So, we don’t need to open ST app

Not sure of a good solution, but I also didn’t like that you really didn’t know if it worked.

For mine I use it in the bedroom for bedroom light, fan, hall light and to initiate good night and good morning. For the hello home actions, I have it tell me the weather just so I know it’s working.

I just got this mini mote, followed the button app in smart hints, even installed the v1 firmware and all it does it turn one light on (and not the one I setup) button 1 sets it to 10% 2 to 50% and 3 sets it to full… What am I doing wrong?

There are some reports of issues with the minimote button app, you can see about it here

You should also email support, the more pressure they get the quicker it’s gonna get fixed.

I am hoping that you folks can help me out.

I just received my hub and purchased the GE Link LED bulbs. I have been able to set them up with the iPhone app, I have, what appears, to be a version 1 minimote with the numerals on the button. I was able to have the minimote join the network, and was able to add the build to the switch. When I hit the switch to turn the lights on ( for example) the bulb will turn on, turn off, then turn on and stay on. This only happens when the minimote turns the bulb on.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the same problem many other people are having. Support is aware of it and working on a fix. Write to support@smartthings.com in case there’s something you need to do on your end.

What’s weird is that all of my Minimotes are, and have been, working just fine. However, I am not using the stock Button Controller app. Instead I’m using a personal customization of Button Controller. I can’t think of anything significant that would be different vis a vis functioning correctly with the device type. But who knows?

Some people have said they think it’s related to anything that sends a push notification, not the device itself. that would at least explain why someone might have doubling errors on one device and not another of the same type, it would come down to the exact configuration for each.

But who knows? I just hope they find a fix soon.

Does anyone know how to get a minimote button to trigger a ST app like MakeItSo?

I want to change lights between different dimmed modes (all with different settings). Get in and out of movie viewing.

One way to do this is to use a virtual momentary button. I’m not familiar with the app you mentioned. But, what you do is modify the app to include a "capability.momentary" device, which when turned on, fires the operative portion of the app. Then, the minimote simply turns on the virtual button in response to a button push, which fires the app.

If you are changing these states in different modes, which it looks like how MakeItSo works, you can use the button controller app to set the different modes depending on which button is pressed.

Ok. I got one of these and I am to be able to only program button 1. How can I tell what firmware I am in and where can I downgrade.

The minimote is on the official “works with SmartThings” list, so if you contact support@smartthings.com they should be able to help.
