2nd Generation - First Alert Smoke and CO2 Alarm - Z-wave

2nd Generation - First Alert ZCOMBO 2-in-1 Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Z-Wave Combo is now available at [Amazon]

This paired easily with my SmartThings V3 Hub. Unfortunately, it is only available in a battery model. No hardwire.

I have three of them. The real issue is that they are not interlinked. If one goes off, the others do not. Not totally useful if there is an overnight fire in the basement and the people on the 2nd floor can’t hear the smoke alarm. I was hoping there would be a means to fire the others from the ST automation, but I have not been able to do that. I am considering removing them and going back to hard-wired interlinked alarms because safety is much more important than getting notifications on my phone.

You can always add an Ecolink Firefighter to listen for the alarm from your hardwired detectors and get alerts. That’s what I intend to do next time I find myself with some cash to spend on HA upgrades.

I don’t see anything about that they can be interconnected where one going off sets them all off.

the difference between gen1 and gen2 is that gen1 is regular zwave and gen2 is zwave plus and has a QR barcode to allow zwave pairing that way.

in regards to ring alarm gen1 can also be used and paired manually w/o the QR barcode that gen2 has.

that’s not for the zcombo though. where it says “wireless interconnect” that is where it pairs to the ST hub.
