I have zwave hub attached to a pi running home assistant.
I decided to order a zwave based alarm system to further extend the mesh.
I’m wondering if this was a mistake since the two systems will be using different hubs.
I don’t intend for one being a secondary controller of a single network. I wasn’t going to bother with HA talking to alarm sensors; so 2 different networks is ok.
But, I was assuming that a zwave repeater would repeat. Does it only repeat for the network it’s attached to?
Yes.
That’s a security factor: devices on a different network are not allowed access to the messages for the other, so they don’t know where to locate the other devices by their device ID. They will just ignore anything from a network that is not the one that they belong to.
