Z-Waze Heat Cable / Z Wave Heat Tape

I automated my Heat Cable and Heattape with Z-Wave. (made a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC8be2Bgfbc )
I use IFTTT to turn it on when it is snowing and below 34 degrees Fahrenheit
IFTTT turns it off 4 hours after it stops snowing.

I used GE Z Wave outdoor switch 12720 / Jasco Z Wave Outdoor ZW4201
Anybody have any better ideas please share them with me.

I found this but it is about 6 years old. The youtube just shows opening the box and plugging it in and doesn’t speak to how you used IFTTT. Any learnings over the past several years. I am looking at a similar application to control heat cable.

That person basically just used the smart plug to turn it on and off, you could use any brand/model that works with smartthings.

They added Ifttt into the equation so that they could use the “it is snowing“ weather report available there.

.

I use a ZigBee smart plug and ZigBee temperature sensor installed in an area protected from the weather. This gives me a local automation, so it will still work if the Internet goes out during a storm.

I don’t use snowing in my automation because it has nothing to do with water freezing. If you want snowing you can get it in SmartThings without using IFTTT.
