Why is Smartthings stagnant

It takes a company quite a lot of time to add and allocate resources after being acquired.

Pre-Samsung, SmartThings was doing a lot of stuff behind the scenes to improve reliability, but was also searching for profit potential.

Now they have a big solution on the horizon (Hub V2 with local processing) but this is major development in architecture (and they have a new release of the mobile apps being finalized carefully which loads 10x or more faster).

So… Not stagnant, just slow but momentum is increasing, I think (Lots of new documention updates too…).

CES 2015 New Stuff

SmartThings Hub Version 2.0

I love the SmartThings platform. I feel it’s about time we start to talk about the next version of the hub. When you think about it the Home Automation industry makes it extremely easy to “jump ship”. The reliability, technical support, GUI, device integration, etc. play a major role in sticking with the Smartthings hub or moving all of your devices to a new platform. I used another platform before switching to Smartthings. I won’t mention the name of my prior platform but it became very unstable, I was constantly looking for answers. Smartthings is awesome. They are brand new but look how far they came and how quickly they did so. I have ideas of features i would like to see in the next version of the hub and I’m sure together we could get a solid list going of ideas that would impove the…

One ST engineer said that they have 12,000 Device Types defined. I don’t understand that number. Since, as you noted, some prominent devices don’t have any support yet.
