Anyone come across a weight sensor that could be linked into smartthings? Something along the way of a pressure plate that could tell me if I am running low on what ever I keep on it like coffee or cereal or something along those lines.
Sure, you just take a regular pressure sensor and then attach a zwave contact sensor to it. See the following project report:
Hi folks - has anyone tried to connect and make work the United Securities z-wave pressure mat?
I would like to use this to send me a txt when someone is standing at my front door and to turn on the light when we walk downstairs. Our stairs are in the middle of our house so a motion sensor won’t work without creating a bunch of false alarms.

You can do this with any size pressure mat. There’s some discussion of smaller versions in the following project report on a smart chair.
I decided to experiment with the smart multi’s today. I had two extras after my move. I had the crazy idea that I could strap them to the chairs in my home office and use them as presence detectors. It works. But in looking at the data, I think I could do more. Just wanted to put this out to the collective and get some opinions.
My first experiment was trying to detect taps on the arm rest. This seemed to work OK, but will require a new SmartApp.
Second experiment was trying to detect if I am leaning back too much or not maintaining the correct posture.
Any other ideas?
If you want to calibrate it to specific weight, that’s more complicated, but it can still be done.
