OK for the keypad you need both a smart app and a device type handler. (DTH)

There are many community members using these, so they should work as long as they’re installed correctly. But you do have to install both of them.

The following is the overview FAQ for custom code which explains the difference between a smart app and a device type handler and how you can install each in the appropriate places in your account.

The original FAQ information in this thread refers to the original smartthings architecture, which was in place through the end of 2022 and a little beyond. Custom code was written in the groovy programming language and ran in the smartthings cloud. As of May 2023, you can no longer add new Groovy DTH‘s or smartapps to your smartthings account. So if you came here because of a link in an old forum thread, or on another site, I’m afraid the Groovy information is no longer usable. All of this was replaced by a new architecture. Continuing the discussion from Smart Home Monitor - Feature Requests: @swindmiller I’m writing a device handler and a smart app to manage codes and SHM event subscription. It’s working out pretty well, better once I figured out what they were doing to get the keypad to show the right system state (using undocumented/non-spec commands). I need to polish the code a bit and time is tight, so hopefully this week. I purchased it from an eBay seller. It’s sold as part of the Xfinity security system. Centralite 3400-X if you’re trying to find them. I’m kind of surprised that ST didn’t have this as one of their new “Things.” It’s a very nice looking keypad, fits the ST aesthetic and would have been a good companion to SHM.
