1st. great to hear you are in contact with Samsung now. but a few question. it seems you are in talk with the EU team. if rolled out, would it still be open for USA? also any updates on the plugins???
I find that there are very few times that I need a windows OS. In cases like these, I am a patient man and can wait for the developer to catch up. I am a linux admin at my day job.
I have contacted imperihome a couple times and I have been told they are still waiting for approval from ST, why does this take so long? Its an amazing app that will push ST to the next level of quality and use. Could we get more support to get this approved.
I just opened the app last night and it told me that they would be moving to a subscription based model. Thatâs just what I need, another service fee.
if you were already an Imperihome Pro purchaser, you donât need to pay a monthly fee, im lucky that i was already using the pro version, because TBH unless they dramatically improve the smart city features, its a pretty lame subscription at the moment.
Do you all think that all these developers spend months on end architecting, developing and implementing these killer Apps, SmartApps, and features to give them away for free? This is the biggest reason they didnât just throw it over into GitHub so that everyone could install it. People are just too used to the community developers who have spent so much sweat equity and given their SmartApps away to everyone in the community free of charge. Be thankful you arenât paying for every single custom SmartApp. Its not easy, itâs not simple and the additional supporting of the SmartApp, enhancements bug fixes, etc. In my own personal opinion, NST Manager and webCoRE should either be subscription based or a one time charge for the importance they serve to the SmartThings platform. Thatâs JMO
No one said I wanted it for free. I would be happy to pay for each major version update. Iâd also be happy to pay more than $50 if an app worked well. Lets put it this way. I have X number of devices in my house, and they want a monthly service fee to support Y devices. if the justification is to support new devices, why would I want to pay a monthly service fee for devices I donât have?
Here is another example. Simple Control, (Which used to be roomie remote) started out being you pay for the app. It then switched to you pay for each module you want to use. Now itâs pay this monthly service fee based on the number of devices you have. The service feeâs eat your wallet. Thatâs why people are dropping their video providers and doing OTA or pirating their content.
Not to mention more often than not an app can not function if you donât pay a service fee. That means if the company decides to shut down youâre left with a product that no longer works. I donât lease my cars, why would I want to lease my apps?
One other thing. Please donât judge people for how they choose to spend their money. Your post seemed very judgmental.
I apologize if it came across that way. It wasnât targeted at you. Just over the last week I have seen so many posts about people saying to some of the other community developers that itâs simple, just add in. That would be easy to modify. Just spend some of your spare timeâŚIt goes on and on. That was not intended toward you.
As for costs, I agree with you on some of it. With SmartThings itâs a difficult beast because of all the flexibility and ability for 3rd party integrations and a lot of what has been built to date isnât built within he SmartThings platform or by SmartThings. Most of what I call all of the important integrations supported on this platform are community based. If you took ActionTiles, Imperihome, WebCoRE, Nest, the Echo / Alexa, and many more SmartApps and ST either purchased outright (acquisition of sorts) from these developers or officially integrated it as part of the SmartThings supported platform, I would be more than happy to have the Hub cost be $250 to $300 (obviously other stability issues need to be fixed before they go that route) and have all of this natively integrated and available or pre installed or a stack installer to choose all your SmartApps and then in turn cuts down on 1500 other associated side costs or subscriptions. Thatâs in my perfect world, but the way it is structured today, I sympathize for some of these developers who gave away the farm for free because they didnât forecast how much everyone loved the SmartApp and all the support that went with it, and how so many of them burned out and just disappeared because they werenât prepared for what was to come and never recouped any $ for the number of hours, months or years they put in. Donât get me wrong, some of the developers love doing it for free and continue to enjoy it. Anyway Iâm going off the beaten path.
Again, my apologies to you.
So do I, which is why I make sure to donate to the people that write these apps.
5 months since you were hoping to get an approval soon. No news regarding this @ImperiHome ? It is really frustrating that Samsung wonât deal with this.
@ImperiHome, i mean its been so long. would it not be better just to put it on gethubs. so we can use it for our SMartthing? while we wait for the approval of smartthing?
@ImperiHome, still busy with the approval?
I would get a subscription if smartthings works with imperihome, pls put it on github for the time being.
nothing new?
ST still dragging feet not approving anythingâŚ
Any updates on this I would like to give it a try?
cant believe imperhome still has not been able to get access to smartthings hub it is a great program and way more stable and user friendly then smartthings new app they created.
This is one of the many reasons why I switched from SmartThings to Homeseer and NEVER looked back!! Since Samsung took over SmartThings it is slowly becoming a more and stay product and taking away the ability to add custom code!!! I can see in a year or two GitHub go away as well as custom added code like webcor!!!
I recommend anyone who is sick of SmartThings jump on the Homeseer train!!! I also recommend just purchasing the hs3 license and software and installing it on my Windows 10 computer!!! You do not need to purchase a hub! Hs3 runs much better on a Windows 10 platform versus a Linux. The plugins work out of the box with Windows vs alot of tweaking with Linux.
Anyway I have for mobile apps now that I use with my homeseer devices. And hopes are just released their new mobile app which is the bomb!!! So I am running the new homeseer mobile app, imperihome, hsbuddy and hstouch!!! The wife and kids love the new mobile app by homeseer!!! See Homeseer Mobile App Screenshots
Good luck with SmartThings if you decide to stay! However I donât see Samsung making this a better and more stable platform! I see Samsung destroying it
