UPDATE: Recent SmartThings User Experience & Platform Performance

From what I’ve read, no you’re not alone. I have never even set up SHM - nor do I intend to, so I can only empathize.

I had been immune to SHM issues throughout this ordeal. They caught up to me tonight. Can’t properly arm or disarm the system.

It amazes me how many people on here use SHM. I tried it out when I first got my Hub about 6 or 8 months ago and didn’t seem to work very well. so I moved on to Smart Alarm app. And everybody on here is complaining about SHM. I don’t get it. why use it if there’s something better right next to it.

I believe if you want to use either the Scout integration for professional monitoring or the official video options then you have to use SHM.

I’ve tried SA a couple of times but found it a little clumsy. No dashboard and the delays and some of the settings (interior/exterior) never worked right for me. SHM feels more integrated.

I agree, while I don’t really trust SHM anymore I do feel it seems like it is better integrated and when I first setup my hub about 4-5 months ago it seemed fairly stable, it wasn’t until recently that the problems started affecting me to the point where it is annoying. I guess I just find it strange that the community even has to create a replacement for SHM when it is obviously a major part of ST, or at least it seems to be on the phone app.

I use SHM. Until the past week or so, it’s been pretty reliable. I get a few too many alerts sometimes when it doesn’t change fast enough, but I’ve never had a problem with arming or disarming it until this whole mess started. It’s been about 50/50 today in terms, but the problem has been disarming, every time.

The trick I’ve figured out is that if it was going from armed (away) to Disarmed, I can switch it to Armed (stay), and then, it’ll let me switch to Disarmed without any trouble. If I try to switch to the correct mode or back to the mode it came from, that’s where it seems to hang up. Hopefully, that might help someone.

My bad about not knowing about the security integration. I’ve never had an issue with Smart Alarm other than the scheduler that controls it.

The odds of them posting that it’s fixed are very good. The odds of it actually being fixed? Maybe not so high. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I was able to fix this weird problem I was having with lights turning on when hitting disable by uninstalling and re-setting up SHM, thankfully.

SA was created before SHM was released. I also switched over to SHM when it came out because it felt better integrated into ST. But SHM always lagged behind SA when it came to overall functionality. Now it just doesn’t work. I’m about ready to reinstall SA.

Getting sick and tired of the issues. Simple mode changes have started failing the past two days for me. Good thing I removed my sirens from the system, couldn’t imagine my 3 year old freaking out anymore over false alarms. Even when trying to change modes, it simply doesn’t respond. After all these supposed fixes, they break more things!! go figure…

I would love to see this company succeed because I believe in them and the concept, I’ve had more incident reports fill my inbox then i really care for the past couple days. Get the base shit right or have Samsung hold your hands and improve things.

I’ve got about 2k worth of compatible hardware and less than half on the system. What happened to the Dev, MO, UAT, PROD concept? Seems you roll on Dev to quick PROD fixes.

The community-created SmartAlarm SmartApp was written over a year before SHM was available. SHM was only added to SmartThings in the fall of 2015. :sunglasses:

Many people continued to use SmartAlarm because it had some features SHM did not, such as zones and arm/disarm delays.

SmartAlarm is my jam, but it only works if your mode actually changes. With the recent issues is it possible SA is not picking up mode changes? I did come in after setting off crazy alerts to see the mode was home based on smartthings but armed away in SA.

I believe in the concept, but it is really hard to believe in them at this point. Things have been unfinished for years, and reliability of the platform continues to suffer, now more than ever. So many things we were told were coming, didn’t.

Now my ‘Notifications’ tab in the SmartThings Android mobile app is gone;

i.e. In the row of section tabs across the bottom, starting from left to right, it normally goes…
Dashboard | My Home | Routines | Notifications | Marketplace

Anybody else?

Moved to the hamburger menu on the right top of the page.

Thank you!
I assume this was mentioned somewhere and I just missed it, eh?

It was a change in the last app upgrade.

OK. When was that?
Mine was the old way before I went to bed last night, and this morning, POOF!

Oh, wait…I did an Update All in my Google Play just before drifting off to sleep…I think I had just let it sit there without updating that particular app for too long.

Generally speaking, I really haven’t done much of anything in that particular app for the past couple weeks, in light of the Melt-Down. So, I guess I haven’t been very on-top of updating it either.

Thanks a lot for the assist!
