United security pressure mat

I have had my pad installed for many months and it has alerted me very reliably about people and my dogs coming to the front door. The only advice I offer from this experience is to snake the line inside the door and install the sensor inside. Before I did this the sensor would often get wet and stop working.

Hey folks,

I did this same install with a United Security Mat and the EcoLink Door sensor. However, its not working quite as expected. When I step on the mat, the Ecolink reports Closed for a moment, and then goes back to open, even when I’m still on that mat. It goes Closed everytime, consistently, but goes back to Open like a momentary switch. I was expecting Closed the whole time there was pressure on the mat. Am I missing something? Do I have a bad mat?

Chris

I’m not sure how you have yours set up but when I step on my mat, it stays stepped on until I step off. I am using the GoControl sensor found here
http://www.amazon.com/GOCONTROL-WNK01-21KIT-Essential-Z-Wave-Security/dp/B00XUXYSWU?ie=UTF8&keywords=GOCONTROL%20WNK01-21KIT%20Essential%20Z-Wave%20Home%20Security%20Suite&qid=1463968481&ref_=sr_ph_1&sr=sr-1

I also use this DTH found earlier in this thread

Maybe you can try reinstalling.

Any updates on this? Has anyone got this to work as a pressure sensor under their mattress?

I don’t think there is enough vertical force in this configuration to trigger the 60 pound mat version except under ā€œspecial circumstancesā€ if you know what I mean (LOL). Seriously - I think a relay switch would be much better and more reliable.

I just setup my security mat, it works great under the couch cushion. Paired with the econet contact sensor.

Here is what I do with it.

Has anyone used this to put under a dog crate? I want to monitor the times our dog is in the crate. I’m not sure if the weight of the crate alone will close the contact.

I don’t know about this particular Mat, but they come in all different sensitivities, you can certainly get one that should work with the dog in the crate. :sunglasses::dog:

As @JDRoberts stated, they make ones with different weight triggers.

If you know the weight of the crate, you can go from there.

Maybe a 50 or 75 pound one would be the most fitting?

Thanks, I will check out the weight options and weigh the bigger crate we are getting.

This one is probably too sensitive for a dog crate.

I think this is the same one I saw at the Home Depot site. I was tempted to check it out if it was available in store.

If anyone is wondering, install with the Ecolink contact sensor is about 3 minutes.

1 - Cut alarm wire.
2 - Connect alarm wire to mat
3 - Strip the ends of the alarm wire
4 - Open contact sensor
5 - Unscrew contacts
6 - Insert wires
7 - tighten contacts
8 - Close sensor
9 - Test.

I use mine in a couch, can you make a butt icon?

Just set mine up! Have it at my front door. I modified @Jimxenus icon a little (feet turn red when stepped on), and used my Super Notifier app to alert me whenever it’s stepped on (whenever the contact closes, with a custom message that says ā€œPorch Mat Stepped On!ā€). Thanks @kewashi for the app!

Will this do?

Thought I’d take a crack at this … butt I dunno … think it’s too small …

How is the pressure mat powered? I’m looking to install a similar setup, but are hoping to get a battery-powered pressure mat.

You need to use a contact sensor that has connections for an external input such as the GoControl Door/Window sensor and a modified DH mentioned in this thread.

Might be cheaper overall to buy this bundle:
