TP-Link Tapo P400M outdoor plug has 2 outlets, but Smartthings only sees one (sort of), and struggles to pair after reset

Almost certainly, thought it’s odd that they seem identical:

Why have 2 products?

I reached out to TP-Link. Going by this, New Matter Compatible Outdoor Smart Plugs from Tapo and Kasa - Smart Home Community, it seems the TP25 is a P400M sold exclusively through Best Buy.

There was a change made to the driver at the turn of the year so it would use the parent-child model instead of the multi-component model for new installations.

Oh nice. Also, TP-Link replied and confirmed that the devices are identical.

This is commonly done for the really big retailers, like Best Buy, Home Depot, Costco, and Target because it prevents direct head to head price comparisons. You see it all the time in appliances and electronics.

It can also help them manage returns.

In the case of something you’re trying to connect to SmartThings, most of the time if it has a different model number it will also have a different fingerprint, so even if the manufacturer tells you it’s the same device, just rebadged, smartThings may not treat it the same because the new fingerprint will also have to be added to the appropriate edge driver. :man_shrugging:t2:

It is what it is.
