ST motion sensors

Do the smartthings motion detectors detect motion based on body heat or motion from inanimate objects? Both? @slagle

I ask because I have some witches hanging from my front porch for Halloween decorations. And on windy days I get alerts that there’s motion on my front porch…

The motion detector is outside by my front door. It is within range of the blowing witches. I was always under the impression that they were based on body heat, not any motion?

If I understand PIR correctly, it’s not sensing body heat per se. It’s sensing a change in temperature in the area in front of the sensor. That’s often due to the movement of a person or other animal. But many kinds of movement could result in local changes to the air temperature that the sensor can detect.
