[ST Edge] vEdge Creator: a virtual device generator for end users

I’m an idiot. Doing too many things at once. I got it working. Thank you.

Is it feasible to add multi-component virtual devices to your driver? If I had a multi component presence, on/off switch, and a momentary switch I would be able to free up about 25 devices. I know most people do not appear to want them as they want the children available for voice assistants. But I’m the opposite I go out of my way to not use a voice assistant. I realize that there would be the name restriction for the children, but that is only a challenge when initially setting up automations, after that there is no need for me to interact with them.

Could the Alexa Multi Trigger do what you want? That has 19 in 1.

Can you post a screen shot, when I create a vsAlexa Switch it has no child devices in it, but you can create external ones?

The Multi Trigger is an alternative to the Alexa virtual switch. Take a look at @TAustin 's presentation of this and the following thread.

I have installed it and will play with it later today. It looks promising , thanks.

I was hopeful that you had pointed me in the right direction but it doesn’t work for me as the switches are only on/off and have no other features attached to them .
Almost all of mine will need other options

Each trigger has an auto revert that you can set it’s time in settings

Is that setting in the contact tiles that are created or in the parent? As it says “closed” I assume that it is in the contact tile not the parent device. I didn’t see anything like that in the parent settings, keep in mind I don’t want the separate tiles as I’m trying to reduce my device count.
I had just deleted the device and driver hence the questions otherwise I would have checked myself.

Those settings are in each trigger/tile, so maybe that’s not what you’re looking for.
For me it’s reduced nearly 50 devices to 3 ( on now 160+ total count that’s keeping the theoretical limit of 200 at bay) while sending all my notifications to Alexa. As I use rules which don’t have notifications thats what I need.

Maybe @TAustin could see if there’s any possibility on what you need, as I understand, ‘multiple’ contact sensors associated to the principal Alexa virtual switch (?)

Would you mind if it was implemented as a separate driver from vEdge? I think I get what you are looking for, but it wouldn’t ‘fit’ very well within the way the vEdge driver is implemented.

Also, one thing I always warn people about is that there has been some issues with 3rd party integrations being able to deal with any controls or fields outside of the ‘main’ component, so just keep that in mind.

Just so I’m clear, you’d want to have 3 fields in each component: presence, switch, and momentary. Would you want both or either the switch and button to change the presence state?

I was thinking of a vEdge switch with children a separate vEdge Presence sensor with Children and a separate vEdge Momentary with children. Just like a multi component device.
The switch would be the one that saves me the most devices.

I don’t mind if it is a separate driver, but if it was in the same vEdge one you will not hear me complain.

I’m not sure if the presence could be done with children?

When you say “children” are you referring to the Edge platform definition of a child device? (This uses a specific design & implementation of an Edge driver). Because when you then say “just like a multi component device”, that confuses me a bit.

Are you really just wanting one physical switch-type device with multiple components each containing a switch control? And then the same thing for presence and the same thing for momentary?

Yes This

Hello,
was hoping someone can help me figure out the presence sensor. I previously had presence sensor with both mine and my wife’s iphone acting as the sensor to trigger location based routines. This used virtual switches. Lately noticed the presence sensor is not working anymore and all the virtual switches are no longer recognized, due to the move to edge. I have found vEdge and have been playing around with it. I have made some virtual presence sensors using this but not sure how to make them work. What I want is the two iphones to act as presence sensor and when we have both left our home, for it to trigger an virtual alexa switch. Any help would be appreciated. Note; I dont know how to have the virtual presence senor to turn on or off based on my home location.

You need to write 2 routines for each virtual sensor. One to turn it on and a second to turn it off. The following is an example.

thanks will try that and report if any issues

Hi all,

I’m trying to use virtual thermostat but I keep getting the message: “The device hasn’t updated all of its status information yet. Check again later.”

And I’m unable to set/adjust the temperature.

Can you help please?

Yes you are right - I am seeing this as well. I will work on a fix and get back to you shortly.

I’ve just pushed out a driver update to fix this issue. Please monitor your driver version to confirm you get the update (could take up to several hours): 2023-08-01T15:09:45.521809442

Thank you for reporting this!
