[ST Edge] vEdge Creator: a virtual device generator for end users

Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to edit the virtual devices and remove bits that aren’t needed?

For example, the virtual fans, remove the swing function.

Thanks,
Sam

It requires setting up new device profiles and adding config option in device Settings.

So yes, it’s possible.

I’m willing to consider adding these options if they are something that would be generally desired by others.

Ok thanks, thank you for your reply. So not currently possible for users but maybe be possible to implement in the future. It was more for myself, to be able to clean up some of the virtual devices. As you say wait until more people are interested.

Thank again,
Sam

hi @TAustin . I installed vEdge Creator v2.7 after Webcore was discontinued and I migrated everything back to ST. I created a few virtual switches and those work perfectly.
I just opened it to create two virtual lights, and I get a popup saying “A network or server error occured. Try again later”. What do i need to do to fix this?

Open device vEdge Creator V. X, menu, remove device, remove, add device, scan for nearby devices, vEdge Creator latest version will install.

Didn’t know I could do that without losing anything, thanks!

The multi-trigger is amazing. The vEdge driver wasn’t integrating well with Alexa for some reason, but the multi-trigger worked instantly. I’m using it as a trigger for my washer. When the smart outlet zeroes out on power draw (the washer is done and turns off) it opens the virtual switch and Alexa announces the laundry is done. I’m excited to try other routines that I couldn’t do before!

When you were trying the vEdge driver, did you create the companion contact for the Alexa device? You have to go into device Settings to do that. Then you need to use that contact for triggers within Alexa, and not the switch.

In any case, glad the multi-trigger driver is working well for you :+1:t3:

@AmonRa

Hi - were you able to get your problem sorted out?

I also had several that were originally setup that way, but some became hit or miss triggering the Alexa routines. I switched them over to the multi-trigger driver and haven’t had any issues since. Something must have changed at some point with the SmartThings/Alexa integration that borked it.

Hi @TAustin! Thank you for this edge driver, I use it a ton.

However, there’s a (simple?) extension that I would really appreciate: The thermostat heats as soon as the temperature is below the target. I would like it to keep some window before turning on (e.g., keep 1F: heat until 70F, do not heat while 69F, restart heating when 68F). Same for cooling.

Is it possible to add a setting to the virtual thermostat with such temperature window?

Sure I’ll take a look at it. I’ll get back to you in a few days.

Hi Todd, any chance you could add a virtual Irrigation Valve to your device types? It’s really just a switch but with the spurty water icons

I can look at adding it as a dashboard icon option in the switch device settings.

Thanks. That’s all it needs

I cannot create virtual devices any longer. It was working and now Smartthings says it cannot connect when selecting the device to create. The only thing that has changed since I installed this is I bought a new router. Could this have caused an issue?

I also deleted the virtual devices I had, uninstalled, reinstalled, and still the same thing. I checked to see if there was an odd device that did not get deleted, but I found nothing.

Nope, USA.

While the ST system in the US is not totally down it doesn’t appear to be working properly, so it still might be your problem.

Thanks and agreed. I am noticing a severe lag when attempting to turn on/off all devices.

@TAustin Low priority request… Did you ever have a chance to look at adding this? I know you’ve been busy helping to keep the community running so no worries if not.
