Is there any cogent reason to buy the Aurora hub instead of the SmartThings one?
The Aurora one works with only other Aurora products where as the SmartThings one appears to be much more inclusive. When I spoke with Aurora they claimed the SmartThings hub was not as good at scheduling and scene setting as theirs but I can’t find anything to back this up.
It depends on whether you are using the official features or whether you are using custom code like webcore.
If you are using Webcore, you can create extremely complex rules. (The topic title is a clickable link)
(This is a wiki post: feel free to edit it or add to it as needed. Also, I can’t take any screenshots since I can’t use the app at this time due to its incompatibility with voiceover, so feel free to add screenshots where they would be helpful.)
At one point, one of the biggest advantages of using the SmartThings platform was the wide variety of devices that it supported. However, by the end of 2017 several competing platforms had caught up in that regard.
Where SmartThings still holds a significant advantage over some of the other low-cost home automation solutions is in the ability to really build really complex rules in a fairly simple manner. You won’t have to be a programmer, but you may need the help of other community members to get the logic constructed just right.
Also, you …
A few, but not all, of the Aurora devices have now been officially certified as “works with SmartThings“ in the UK. There is a discussion thread open for the individual devices, but no reviews yet.
Some but not all of the Aurora AOne zigbee Devices have been officially certified as “works with SmartThings.” This includes some of the micros, the pocketsocket and the battery operated remote. So far it does not include any of the all-in-one light switches.
Also, no word yet whether these will work as a repeater for the Xioami sensors (many zigbee devices do not.)
These are nice looking devices. We will have to wait on community reports to see which features are in the official DTHs and how well they work.
Many people are interested in the all-in-one light switches because they do not require a neutral but note at the present time those have not been officially certified and they either might require custom code or they might not work at all with SmartThings.
