Smartthings Terms Violation

Has anyone else noticed that Smartthings wont give you access to at least My.Smartthings.com unless you access their updated terms and conditions. To me this seems highly illegal.

Seriously? Their platform, their T&C’s. Don’t like it, move on. Not like you’re paying them a monthly subscription.

We pay for Samsung hardware, and they use our usage data. Samsung / Smartthings are a for profit company, so it is not free as you say.

If you looked at the license agreements and previous Terms and Conditions you would likely find changes to the Terms and Conditions are included.

I cannot imagine the complications of not allowing changes to the Terms and Conditions. I have never seen exceptions for this before.

Changing in terms yes, buy as my lawyer agreed, them blocking access to devices and app unless one agrees, no, hence pending lawsuit.

I am not an attorney, but the Terms and Conditions are quite clear in my opinion. It does suprise me that an attorney would file a lawsuit on this type of situation. I’m not disagreeing that when TOS change, it can be frustrating. I have some smart devices which have been depricated to the point of being useless to me. One of those is a SmartThings sensor I have had for a long time.

You may want to review Section 14.8 of smart-hub tems an conditions which is the arbitration clause. It is a very common clause these days to protect corperate liability.

However, if your lawyer is willing to file a lawsuit, go for it.
