SmartThings iOS App Update 1.7.17 / 1.7.18 (July 11/12, 2024)

new iOS app update today

Yep, and if you have your device in ‘Dark Mode’ it messes up a lot of menus.

Example:

I just setup a few iOS shortcuts to change the Appearance to Light and Dark modes, and created a few iOS Automations so that when the SmartThings app is opened, it changes to Light Mode, and when SmartThings is closed, it changes back to Dark Mode. Whew.

I see the iOS app devs haven’t changed their QA testing process :person_facepalming:

now that’s a clever work around!

This release of the iOS app doesn’t appear to bring anything much to the table. At least, for my use cases. Navigation on the Devices tab, like the changes reported for the Android app, make it “different,” at best. I don’t see any “improvement,” but am aware we’re not all privy to the design goals/choices that drove the changes. At least I’ve not found anything broken beyond repair… :yum:

Horrible horrible horrible. When I click an individual device to view it, all the options at the top are gone. What the heck?

Text isn’t showing up in other menus as well.

@nayelyz

Same here. All the menus are a complete mess

Are the menus any better with dark mode turned off?

They added this active notification and Dynamic Island for TVs. The remote button opens the tv device in the app. The power button doesn’t seem to do anything.

That sounds like a lot of work… Samsung support didn’t help except to say “In this case I will take this as feedback, hopefully we will see in next update.”

I tried and when I click on the remote icon, it opens Smartthings but then. Says “unable to perform this action” and do nothing. So for me does not open the remote directly.

I also tried the power button and it worked like 1 time and then stopped working.

So I turned that feature off

A lot of work needs to be done on a software release.

Yes. That’s the reason I did the iOS shortcuts and routines mentioned above. In fact, since I use black wallpaper in SmartThings, it practically looks the same as it used to when dark mode wasn’t a problem since most of the menus always displayed in light mode anyway.

I tried it too and disabled it since it obviously needs some work, but also since my Samsung HDTV always shows as Offline in SmartThings whenever it’s off anyway.

I use dark mode. They may be better without dark mode. I haven’t checked. I use dark mode.

I have never used Shortcuts or Automations on my Apple devices. Thanks for the great tip! I set my iPad and iPhone up to do just as you described, Light mode when opening the SmartThings App and back to Dark mode when closing the SmartThings App. Works like a charm, thanks again!

1.7.18 is being rolled out

Dark mode appears to be fixed.

They still need to fix it on the iPad app.

that’s odd… the version 1.7.18 works on my iPad.

1.7.17.15 is the version on my iPad. No updates showing available in App Store.
I

IPadios is 16.7.8 showing as up to date.

I am sure it will roll out soon so keep a lookout for 1.7.18 which resolves the dark mode issue.

I was able to determine that the header icons work in dark mode if you know where to touch. They just do not display.

that is resolved with 1.7.18
