SmartThings Hub V3 vs Wink and a Lutron Question

SmartThings is in the middle of a major transition to a whole new platform, so in general posts which are older than Fall 2021 may not apply any more. Also, some community members have moved on to other systems so in future, I’d suggest sticking to newer topics, or at least avoid ones that are talking about Groovy and DTH‘s and the IDE (all part of the old architecture).

or feel free to start a new thread asking your question if you can’t find a recent one that already covers it so that people can then give you an answer consistent with the new architecture. That’s easier than bubbling up old threads and making everybody read through stuff which doesn’t apply any more.

Meanwhile, to your specific questions, some GE models (but only some) support a double tap on the switch, which you can then use for a scene or something like that. For example, the regular single tap on top of the rocker might just turn that light on and off, while a double tap might be used to set the system to night mode. Stuff like that. But again, the switch has to be one that supports double tap to begin with. It will say in the user manual, which brings us to the first rule of Home automation: “the model number matters.“ so let us know what exact model numbers you have and we can tell you if double tap is possible.

If you do have a GE/Jasco model which supports double tap, the following custom edge driver created by a community member will probably allow you to use that functionality with smartthings on the new architecture:
