SmartThings Hub V2 now available for pre-order

Nothing beats a posative community member in my eyes, defo get more vocal arund the community mate - everyones ideas and suggestions are just as important as the next guys, i learn so much from users on here just from getting more involved and like yourself soak in the rest  its nice to see someone else who thinks on my wave length though

Ps: you can feel reassured if your a V1 user you will get the deal price that was origonally offered, they have made that clear  i think they just need to iron out some bits and bats with demand and that code been re-distrubuted more than expected (as im sure they will have accounted for a few new users, just not a popular coupon sites worth)

Has anything been stated about when V2 becomes available – AKA when the preorders start shipping?

You guys are over charging on sales tax!! Sales tax should be charged on the discounted total not the pre discount code price. You are going to owe a lot of people refunds.>

agreed. the verbiage was clear that this was a discount. My screen shot from the submission page clearly says price before tax $99. the next line was taxes ~15. the wording is that the pre tax subtotal has a break down line item, however the actual calculation is in error. I did a support ticket and they will look at it. ST is very responsive, so I believe they will correct if not for the error then to keep their customers happy. It would be terrible to leave a negative experience on a customer before the customer had tried out the launch product.

It’s really not as complicated as people make it out to be, and it’s been explained a few times by ST folks… Though a simple architecture diagram and example scenarios would go a long way to getting us all on the same page.

I like to hear myself talk which is why I keep posting “what I happen to believe based on what I heard”:

  1. Cloud is still fundamental overall. It’s required for the mobile App, and thus all installation, configuration, and upgrade of Devices and SmartApps.

  2. Nearly all local Device Handlers will download and run locally. You could run out of memory, in which case something will be swapped out and may have to be fetched from Cloud. Devices which are obviously “cloud dependant” will not run locally (probably includes all uses of external Internet services).

  3. Events are logged locally but must and will be sent ASAP to the Cloud… Otherwise mobile App and non-Local Devices won’t work!

  4. SmartApps that only use #2 (local Device Handlers) will also run locally, same memory constraints, and some unknown exceptions. There will be local support for scheduled actions (runIn, and cron stuff).

  5. Internet or Cloud down? See #1 to #4.

Do you have text to speech running when you post on here?

The shop was not calculating tax correctly. It will be corrected for all orders.

This is ridiculous! SmartThings wants us to pre-order a new hub but forces us to search the Internet far and wide to get information? What’s wrong with these people? What does the new hub do besides allow for cameras? Have they made it more reliable? Do we simply reintroduce devices to the hub or or we starting all over with scenes and other functions?

They say there will be a new mobile app. Any clues as to what it will be like? Have they made improvements? It’s currently crap.

It seems like SmartThings isn’t really devoting much effort into improving their system or listening to their customers. If I weren’t in so deep, I’d look for an alternative.

@Ben and @April
I’m happy I got my order in time before it sold out but I was wondering, did that bundle sell out so fast because the promo code, meant for v1 hub owners, was shared and used by non v1 hub owners?

@WTSL, the answers to most of your questions are there, just not detailed in a single list. I’ll try to help anyway (if somewhat sarcastically.)

…far and wide to get information: No, just on the ST forum. Even then, they’ve been fairly careful to avoid absolute definites.

…wrong with these people: If you watched them during the bi-weekly dev conference call, you wouldn’t have to ask this question.

…besides allow for cameras: It has a more apple-ish shape (the brand, not the fruit.)

…more reliable: With the local processing, it certainly should be. Most of the reliability problems that I’ve personally seen were related to “The Cloud.”

…scenes and other functions: I don’t understand the question.

…any clues as to what it will be like: A few weeks ago, one of the ST employees showed a glimpse during one of the dev calls…(I think it related to some geo thing… I forget now.) Other than that, I think it’ll have things.

…made improvements: Define “improvement.” To some, a better color (colour for @AutomateEverything) scheme would be an improvement. However, I have to be honest in saying that I have no clue if the mobile app is going to be more or less reliable or more or less “easy to use.”

Seriously, though - right now, “hub v2” is PRE-RELEASE. It’s not released, so the final spec sheet might very well change. Until they actually release it, I doubt we’ll get any 100% definite feature list, etc. ST has made it available for pre-order, but they certainly haven’t twisted anyone’s arm to commit to ordering before it’s actually released. If you aren’t sure, just hang tight for a few weeks (unintentional, Ben) and see what happens…

Take care
Gary

Edit: The term “a few weeks” is trademarked by ST and used without permission (but unintentionally.)

Wait. Did st actually trademark few weeks

They did, but it won’t take effect for a few weeks.

No they don’t want you to pre-order a new hub.

They have a new hub available for pre-order but the choice whether you do or not is entirely up to you, NOT pre-ordering is an option…

I can neither confirm nor deny this claim. For the next few weeks anyways.

Speaking of trademarks, and the fact that V2 is officially the Samsung SmartThings Hub, check out these recent trademark filings. Note the device classes (!):

So many people jumping ship, just b.c they did not make the cut on the discounted pre-order. Sounds like a bunch of cry babies. just relax I am sure ST will make things right and fix the issues. Plus, its only a pre-order can everyone not wait till it comes out and order it then? I got an email about the pre-order discount but didn’t jump on it b.c I knew a lot of people would be and either they would sell out first or the website would crash. I don’t mind waiting and spending the money, since I saved up for the new hub V2.

Not trying to be rude when posting this I just feel a lot of people have done a lot of complaining. I have not had any issues with my V1 hub. since I got it over a year ago. I have not run into any of the issues that everyone is saying they are having. I may have a slight delay on getting info to my phone but it’s only noticeable if I am actually paying attention to it.

Keep up the good work ST!!!

I was just kidding about the margarita maker…

You’re forgetting our roots!

This played a role but we are not sure how large. I actually think that there are just many, many existing customers who want to upgrade, and the deal was pretty good too.

Thanks, April & Ben! I’ll make sure I jump right on the preorder next time round!

Thanks for getting that straightened out!
